That's about the same as my (quite old now) Intense Spider with carbon post and bars. Mine comes out at 27.5LB.

And you've got a dropper post on it which must weigh a little more than a normal post.
Pretty good i'd say.

Of course you could spend silly money on spangly bits to lose a pound or two....

My Flux frame was 6lbs and I got a 25lb build with Hope Pro3XC6 wheels but not with a dropper post, and with Maxxis Ignitor LUSTs, so I think you are doing OK.

As has been said the ST4 isnt what youd call a light frame given its a short travel FS XC. I think a SC Superlight is at least 1lb lighter & cheaper..

are you sure you've taken the files out of it? 😉

27lbs for a full suss sounds pretty decent to me.

That's a pretty good weight for a frame that heavy, you should be pleased.

Well the bathroom scales suggest 26lbs for my C456 and 30.8 for my spicy 516

So 27 is pretty damn good!

27.2lbs is only 'heavy' if we're talking about cats, and sandwiches.

for a mountain bike that's as ace as yours, it's respectable.

Unless you are actually racing it, then who cares if it's 25lb or 27lb? And if you are racing it, it's still probably better spending more money on training the engine than loosing a couple of lb of the bike !

so you can just,

GET OUT (and ride it)!............. 😉

Tbh if my singlespeed steel hardtail project comes in around that weight imma be happy! (Though secretly I want it to be sub 25lbs)

My LT full sus, with bling kit (full XTR, Chris King, carbon finishing kit and reverb) comes in at 33lbs from a 9.5lb frame and it's a hoot to ride on xc type trails despite being heavier than most xc bikes!

Weight is just a number. It's just nice to have a low one.

TBF that's a pretty good weight considering the bells and whistles its got fitted. A nice balance of function, cost and mass IMO.

Thinking about it a bike with front/rear bounce, dropper post, full range of gears, built for harder use and weighing under 30lbs would have sounded like a work of fiction only a few years ago, so I'd not be disappointed if I were you. Bringing it under 25lbs would either mean a big spend or some functional/durability type compromises.

Nice bike OP, enjoy it...

You're disappointed? I just weighed my Yelli Screamy and its 29.5lbs. It's a good spec and still awaiting a dropper. I reckon they filled the frame with lead.

Just had a weight weenie moment myself comparing wheel weights: front - slx hub, dt 480 rims, rubber queen is to within 30g the same as pro2 hub, dt 5.1 rims, hans dampf. The rear however - slx hub, dt 480 rims, rubber queen nearly 500g heavier than pro2 hub, dt 5.1 rims, hans dampf.

More than a pound, go figure (cassette is half responsible)!

Agreed.

A modern carbon FS with XT, reverb and 32mm forks would come to about the same.

I have an anthem x with carbon crown 120mm futureshocks, crests on pro3's, xt groupset and carbon bars/seat post. Is a shade under 25lbs with light tyres run tubeless.

Built up from secondhand and reduced bits so didn't cost crazy money.

It can take a fair bit of abuse but I'm sub 10 stone, I think a heavier person could break it, those wheels in particular...

OP, my steel rigid single-speed weighs about 27lbs. ish. Not weighed it, just a guess.

Feel any better now? : )

I think if your bike is specced up with kit that's chosen for the right reason, the total weight isn't worth worrying about unless you're a national class XC whippet.

27.2 lb isnt this a little heavy for a short travel full susser?

Yes I've mine down at a tad under 24 pounds or 10.8 Kilos. Mind 120 mm travel frame and forks is only 8 pounds.

I think I've been a little naive having never owned a short travel bike since my first rockhopper.
All the bikes I have owned since were 140 150 travel bikes which I had convinced myself (never weighed) were about 30lb in reality were probably a chunk more.
I have just taken it out skiing around cannock and I have to say im mightily impressed and it does feel both sprightly and capable.
I do appologise if it sounded at anypoint like i was whinging about its weight, I wasnt. I just imagined it would be lighter, that being said it does sound like a good weight from what you guys are saying.

In my mind it's a lot easier to lose a couple of pounds of body weight than stress over the weight of your bike.

And we all thought 27.2 was a common seatpost size!

Seriously....an Orange...under 30lbs....that's good, ain't it?

Ti HT running XTR (inc cassette), Hope Pro2 Evo SP, tubeless, carbon post/bars, I-Beam seat and lots of Ti bolts etc but pedals/crudcatcher/muddynutz and 140mm fork = 25lbs, 20" frame though.

Which is why I reckon any FS getting below 28lbs is a good/expensive effort - but needs a picture. 🙂

Scales seem ok, weighing riding buddies steel HT's at 30lbs.

I second maxtorque, ride the damn thing.
Have you weighed yourself? Have you weighed your riding kit? How much liquid do you take on a ride? Do you take extra tubes etc?
I weigh 16.5 stone on a good day, my pack is heavy and my bike either weighs 30ish or 40ish pounds depending which I'm on. When I commuted to work my bike weighed 25 and my bags weighed 28lbs.
Does it all matter unless you're competing at the highest level?

My "race HT" is now 9.9kg, and i was very pleased to get it down to that (it ain't a carbon frame). Then one day i weighed the SPD shoes which i wear to ride it, drat! They are the best part of a kg on their own, but i don't even think of their weight, i just stick 'em on my feet and pedal. So definately don't get too hung up on mass!

I'd like any one of my MTBs to be under 30lb. FS is around 33lb.

All XL frames, with Gravity Dropper and built a bit more on the strong side as I'd sooner carry a bit of weight than keep replacing broken stuff.

I too think that you have done well getting it down to that weight.

I'd love to have a ride on a proper lightweight bike just to compare.

Thanks everyone for all the input on this thread

What about those Eclipse tubes for £40..... Mind you, they're controversial!
