The standard loop appears to be up the railway bridleway, down rangers then back over the old drovers path as shown on bike hike.
How does Rhyd-ddu compare for the descent?
OK I know it means an extra 150m of up but it also means an extra 150m down.
I've ridden/walked up the Ryd-ddu and then descended the Rangers so can really only comment on the latter as an excellent way down but my feeling was that we probabley got it the right way round.
I am still thinking that we go up the path by the railway.
it just which is the best way down.
Never done the Ryd-ddu but can highly recommend the Ranger. Its ace.
I thought the Ryd ddu path was a little dangerous for bikes!!
We did the ranger's twice and was excellent the first time when there were fewer ramblers on it - we really could let rip and enjoyt it.
The second time however, despite being outside of the Cycling Ban we got totally bogged down in red socks.
My mate even got shouted at and accused of "nearly murdering" a rambler that we passed about 8 foot away from at a fairly slow pace..
I thought the [s]Ryd ddu path[/s] Snowdon was a little dangerous for bikes!!
All part of the fun, comrade.

oops - I said " rangers" but I meant llanberis or however you spell it.. :-S
I thoroughly recommend the Rangers path, we had a great trip up Llanberis and down the rangers in september.
Video here, first half is of snowdon:
The vid actually misses the best / most nadgery bit as I forgot to start recording again...oops.
We carried up Rhyd Du and rode down Rangers at the start of the year.
I personally wouldn't even bother attempting Rhyd Du as a descent.....the penalty for failure along the (often unridable) ridge line is massive, a good deal would be a carry and I think it would be very disjointed. Saying that, sometimes things look a whole lot easier when the bike is facing downwards.....
Rangers is techy, but potentially cleanable and thoroughly enjoyable. The best natural descent that I have done in the UK and probably one of my favourite all time trails.
fair enough - rangers it is then
