[#949343]

Always said I would do Snowdon around my 65th so today I did it for the first time to make sure it was doable cos I only have 13 years to make sure I am fit.

Picked the Hustler over the 5 spot on the basis that it is better over the lumpy bits.

Don't know what it was like before but they seem to be beefing up lots of the track with loads of ****in big rocks so it was a fair bit more rocky techy than I was expecting.
2 hours 40 to get up (although next time i will wear some walking boots and knock off 20 mins)
Coffee at the new cafe at the top then 40 mins of yahoo coming down.

Next time will do Rangers.

Respect to anyone doing it hard tail

Big Pete

Well done mate, we did it last week and and came back down on the Rangers' Path which I can highly recommend (longer and just about no-one walking up it unlike the tube-escalator-at-rush-hour Llanberis path!) I hope the crap cafe coffee at the top didn't spoil yer day. I managed to put it behind me 😉

Oh you swines - would love to come and do Snowdon but I'm still ill. Don't think the missus or my work would be too impressed.

Respeck for even trying it on that. I get arm pump on fireroads on mine 🙂

Magic bike for eating up the miles though.

Hi Pete. Good, innit?

If you fancy riding the Ranger path I'll be up there on Sunday if:
1) the weather forecast stays good
2) I can persuade anyone to come with me
3) this bit of a cold I've got goes away and doesn't turn into swineflu/manflu/anyotherkindofflu

nice one big pete, one of my fave rides this year if not ever and that includes my alps trip this year. ive only done the rangers descent though, not the main one. my advice is enjoy it! its over so quick you wondr how it took you so long to get up there. its a brilliant mix of fast loose skree, rock gardens and lumpy narrow chutes and i cant wait to go back. if you have time id highly recommend sessioning the good bits to make it feel like a bigger ride cos it really isnt that big. it helps next time you go too, first time i went it took me half a dozen goes to get a couple of tricky bits but second time i got top to bottom without cocking anything up or dabbing. that felt good i can tell you!

Snowdon up and down againI rode it on Saturday in under 2hrs. Shorts and cycle-specific shoes are all that's needed IMHO.
Completely pointless exercise going back down the way you came up - ie the railway side.
Down Rangers all the way, as the last 300m is more akin to a trail centre-managed trail, then cycle back up maybe 500m, at the signs veer left over the saddle and that decent down back to Ll is a cracker!

I'll give you a clue...
Look in the Chunky 'Gallery' for the Snowdon ride. As well as me and johnclimber, you'll find genesis.

Might well take you up on that. If I'm there, I'm there.

I did fancy setting off a bit earlier though (to get back earlier) so might rattle round on my own. You'll probably catch me up before the top anyway. Otherwise, if you see a broken body mangled up in a red Blur 4X, that's me.

Hardtail? Heh, try coming down off Ben Nevis on a rigid bike! Was up there the very weekend JMC came off his Harley. Bonkers, but mostly surprisingly rideable.

Hey, just for reference, to anyone doing the Llanberis downhill, or starting up the hill late enough for it to be open, the cafe right on the Llanberis path just near the bottom is fantastic, and run by a very friendly, rather crazy welsh guy. The menu is basically 3 types of cake (or whichever he has in) cooked fresh each day (they only do cake), and drinks are beer, tea or coffee. The cake is very good and very fresh.

Pete's Eats is the usual hang-out when in Ll.

The all-day b'fasts are traditional with a pint of tea although the Alpine café in Betsw is a better meal (more expensive too) and if you sit watching the trains from the huge leather arm chairs, it's easy to forget you still have hours of biking to crack-on with!
The pop over to Penmachno's 2x loops.
