What is there? Quite like the look of the Corsair Marque for the sort of places I ride, but I'm a second-hand man, so that's out really.

Need some thing to sit between my 456 and my Bullit, something that pedals better that the Bullit, but not after anything light-weight and needs to be superb on the descents.

a.

What's your budget for 2nd hand? Some frames command silly prices. Cannondale Prophet would fit that bill though and good value 2nd hand. Or p'raps an 06 Enduro frame, but watch the chainstays.

EDIT - akshully, Enduro would prolly end up too close to the Bullitt.

Look at any of the marin quad 140 range, attack trail, wolf ridge etc. HA on mine with 36's is 65-66.

I'm quite fussy too I should add, not a fan of Marin or Cannondale, it has to look good and they just don't. Especially the Marin with it's un-finished gussets.

Anyway, there isn't really a budget, I can always save for longer if required, just after ideas at the moment. I ruled out the Corsair because not enough people have them for there to be any available second hand.

I was looking att he Specialized SX-Trail, but they're similar travel to the Bullit aren't they.

The sx trail would be too similar to the bullit, i've had an sx and loved it but its a play bike/mini dh bike and definately not a trail bike.
Orange 5 with bigger forks works well, i've got an 06 five with 36 vans and a 2011 coil van rc on the back and its a great bike.

Hasn't that corsair jobby been slated in the states cos of chain suck probs due to that odd chain tunnel thing it's got going on? Lovely looking bike but I'm sure I read something on mtbr a while back.

I think my bro in law considered the Corsair but they have problems with that fancy chain thing.

He has settled on a Cube Stereo Theone.

Helius CC? 130mm rear travel and 67 degrees with a 140mm fork

I've been totally chuffed with mine - it suits the 32 Talas perfectly - 100/120mm for climbs and general trails and then wind it out to 140 for descents and rough stuff

Enduro sl's are silly cheap SH for what you get. Great all day riding bikes but also capable of a lot more. I know they're 150 mm travel but if you were considering an sx trail, these are far more versatile. Sheepsteeth is selling a v. Nice looking example in the classifieds at the mo. (no connection to him at all).

To be honest neninja they're not that slack.

I'd go for a Pitch myself, having had one and knowing they don't command massive bucks in the 2nd hand market, especially the comp frames.

I've no chance of a second hand Nicolai really, although there isn't a strict budget I want to achieve my aim for a minimal outlay, so I can't see a Nicolai working out.

Orange 5 is on the same list as Marin and Cannondale.

Pitch might be a good call. Covert was on the list anyway. I was aware of the issues with the Corsair, but I believe they were resolved with a different pulley thing. Mythic, maybe but a bit rare perhaps.

Is there any info on that bike at Rush Cylces that is accessible via the internet?

Cheers

What about a Corsair Konig on offer for £995 at Merling, or a Chumba Racing XCL at about £899 direct from that Si Chap?

To be honest neninja they're not that slack.

67 degrees with a 140 fork is slack enough and feels very slack when you also ride a 71 degree Anthem X

Orange Blood
Slack, low, heavy and crap at pedalling but the best bike I own.

Bottle rocket might work, as might a covert. How different would the two bikes feel to each other do you think? Definitely can't afford an Orange Blood!

Bottle rocket would be too similar in a playbike way to your Bullitt IMO. It's well overbuilt to use as a trail bike if you have a Bullitt too.

The Mythic Spitfire will run at 66.2 degrees with a 150mm fork or 66.7 at 140mm. It also subscribes to the long low ethic and has a 12.9-13" bottom bracket which makes it one of the slackest 5" bikes around.

The Spitfire isn't the lightest (31lbs ish) size large with tough build, gravity dropper and a nod to downhill rubber. It is however a very strong stiff frame and if you want "superb on descents" then it is that. It descends like a mini DH bike but you need to be comfortable with the low bottom bracket, if you are it rails corners like a downhill bike but surprisingly climbs very well too.

Blur 4X. Slack as a slack thing and quite absolutely brilliant. Seems to have been a load for sale recently...

As above, I really wanted a Corsair Marque, but they appear to have had lots of problems, first it was the routing of the chain over a roller, which Corsair re-engineered to be more robust after customer problems. After that, there were reports of problems with breaking of part of the rear suspension. Most of my info on the Corsair Marque was off that USA website, mbtr or whatever. It might have been just a few problems, but when you're buying a boutique frame you want nothing but positive reports. I then looked at other frames with slack angles and low BBs, Orange Blood, Spesh Pitch, Lapierre Zesty etc. After some consideration, I decided that I wanted a more lightweight bike which rules out the Blood and Corsair Marque. I've now gone for a Cube Stereo Frame, it has a very low BB, so I intend to fit a 160mm Fox fork to up the BB a touch and slacken the head angle to approx 68/67 degrees. The Spesh Pitch and Lap. Zesty are the same Suspension system as the Cube Stereo. Anyone of these would suite your purpose.

I did look at the Bottlerocket, Blur 4X and others, but the build was too heavy unless you were prepared to spend lots of money.

Yes, horses for courses, I'm not going to be throwing my bike down anything more technical than a rockgarden at Stainburn or the odd easy dropoff. We do alot of techy play biking, so a low BB is good, but Jedi will be punnishing a bike much more than me I expect.

We have a few Chumba XCL frames going for £799, 68 HA with 140mm forks. Numbers and sizes are very limited though.

Mates got a Stereo but its a few years old with 130mm Revs. Crying out for longer forks and a shorter stem/wider bar!

Had a ride of another mates Bottlerocket. Possibly one of the only bikes I'd change my Blur 4X for... Weight isn't too much of a consideration for me either (as long as it doesn't impact on the ride) - fun is where its at!
