Thinking of getting a frame and building it up as a single speed. Unsure which frame size to get. I'm 6' 1.5" with a 34 inside leg measurement. Would I better off with a large or XL? Currently riding a Genesis Caribou XL with a 685mm effective toptube measurement. Would it be better to get a large and fit a longer stem, or get the XL and fit a short one?
I'm the same measurements as you and bought an XL when they (eventually) came out. I always wished I'd got a large though as the XL just felt a bit ponderous.
swavis What was the stand over clearance like on the XL?
@td75 I'm about 6' 3'' and have a mk1 Puffin in XL - I'm longer in the body than leg.
I would go XL.
Where have you seen them for sale?

Is it worth getting the fork? Or shall I just source a carbon one?
@td75 When I bought the F&F, originally via the Kickstarter, 150mm spaced front forks weren't quite as common as they are now.
For me I have always and probably always will run the frame rigid but if I bought another I think I would be tempted to go frame only and source a separate 150mm spaced fork just to offer some future flexibility.
I was tempted a while back with a new frame and a carbon fork to run 29 plus but I have a Commando for that and a Rooster and a Sonder and a Genesis ......... (I'm a bit of a fan of the 29 plus format 🙂

@letmetalktomark Thats the route I'm thinking of going. Just get the frame and source a 150 spaced front forks.
Never had a Singular before, I fancy having a single speed fat bike with the option to try 29 plus at some point.
@td75 - I'm a bit of a Singular fanboi so take this with a pinch of salt ....
I think the Puffin is one of the nicest riding and fitting frames I have ever owned. I love my Rooster too but the Puffin format just works really well. I'm far from against suspension on fat bikes but riding it rigid just seems right. I guess as things have moved on and carbon fat bike forks have gotten longer finding the right AtoC will be crucial.
swavis What was the stand over clearance like on the XL?
Standover was fine, I think I'd have just preferred a shorter top tube. I ran mine singlespeed and with a 3 speed SA hub. I wouldn't recommend that, it was like a boat anchor and killed the back end 😆

Cheers, they were black Robsson ones from Germany. I drilled them myself then got them powder coated a Porsche orange locally.
I had a fab couple of years on my Mk1 Puffin, often regret having sold it, and feel a surge of urge to buy another frame for revisiting those fun times. I can't help on Sizing, as 6ft3 and so the XL was great for me.
If it's your first fat bike, get a decent tyre pressure guage too, as one psi REALLY DID make a difference!
was definitely the best decision to get a puffin!
Are Singular still in business?
I think they just do titanium one offs now.
