Hi

I work in winchester and fancy some pre or afterwork riding if the situation allows. I was wondering where I could head to locally to have a good ride on some fun singletrack or any fun riding that might help my skilz (yes skills with a 'z', I don't have any of the ones with an 's')

All routes welcome + anyone else who wants to ride!

Cheers

tm

Black Wood would be better and I'm sure someone has a gpx of a good route through it.

Have a read through this thread too. Clicky

Probably worth registering and posting on the New Force message board. There's plenty of trails within easy reach of Winchester and a couple of groups who ride regularly in the evenings in that area.

I'm north of winchester learning the briddleway system round here, theres loads, some are sweet and some are just ordinary. loads more bridleways and trails around the southdowns way which is easy to access from Winch.
Also loads of trails to explore around farley mount and surounding areas and black wood
A bit further a field is lordswood in southampton, which used to be my regular afterwork ride.

There are loads of loops around from the center of Winch and a little way out. You do have to know which ones are good for winter riding, but there is plenty of variety.

SDW is a bit of a motorway, but there is plenty of exploration potential if you get a map and rummage around. I tend to ride for an hour or two after work (sometimes before as well) just outside Winch, depends on whether it is my turn to pick up/drop the kids. e.mail me if you want have a pootle out some time, but it is getting to the stage that you will need lights after work, but before is doable for a while yet.

There's a nice bit of singletrack that singletrackmind from here showed us - it's near Morestead. But before that you need to head towards Longwood Warren for more fun singletrack. You can link those two. If you need grid refs, just shout!

Edit: Hampage Wood, to the east of Winch. Even more singletrack fun leading to a gully. 8)

manton - be good to try and go for a ride cheers

cinnamon girl - this sounds ideal as i come up from bournemouth in the morning and work in winchester so i could park up, shred, fall off, and then go to work - grid refs would be tres bon!

Morestead SU503252, finishing at 505244.
Also 530261, finishing at 512259.

Hampage Wood 535303, finishing at 554318.

There's loads in the vicinity, the problem will be sorting the wheat from the chafe. Also bear in mind it's a chalky area and lethal when wet.

Check out these:

The Cheesefoot Head one is good, as is the Winchester one.

Post up if you need any more info!
