Building one from my old 1990's Kona Cindercone and assorted garage detritus.
Now have the frame sorted, forks, wheels and now looking at gearing.
2:1 seems to be very popular, but I live slap bang between the dark and white peaks so it's either steeply up or steeply down - is 2:1 still the best option or should I go lower?
I use a marginally lower ratio that's fine in the peak
32:18 on a 26" or 33:19 on a 29er will climb everything (with a fair amount of grunt) but still be nice and quick without being too spinny in the fun bits
if you want to try mine on a test loop somewhere first let me know I'll lend one of the hoard
32:18 for the Peak I reckon.
Thanks folks - and that's a very kind offer Tazzy, will drop you a pm when I get back from Wales (a week in the Surf in Pembrokeshire then a week biking in mid Wales - does life get any better?!) ๐
