Thinking about getting a 'black chrome' finish but very few examples of chrome or metal finishes around. Any of you respray gurus have experience (good or bad)?

I was going to answer, but I've not seen black chrome (does look nice in the pictures), is it a mirror style one?

When I went to get my bike frame powdercoated (it was a cheaply chromed 456) there was a large display stand of different mirror "chromes" on alloys and quite frankly they looked shit. Even the best of the powdercoat chromes looked okish until you compared it to actual chromed metalwork.

You'd get away with it at car speeds I suspect but it would annoy me on a bike. However that black one isn't trying to be chrome chrome (if you know what I mean.

There is a guy on Retrobike who has had some done, look for a San Andreas. And iirc Spectral powder coating....maybe.

Yeah I'm worried about it looking pants, and agree - most of the metal finish powdercoats I've seen look like thick grey plastic with flecks (surprise!). Have seen some pics of 'black ultra chrome' and doesn't look too bad but I'm thinking it wouldn't look 'not too bad' for long on an MTB? Edit *Thnks YoKaiser will have a search [img] [/img]

That looks nice - more of a gunmetal than what I would class a chrome.

That's mine that has weathered well - looking beaten up now I was looking for imilar but the shiny shiny is tempting.
