Just a nice pic of the cranks/arms and Ring please.

A description of components would be nice too.

Love the concept of the 1x10 but struggling with the aesthetics.

Gives a better chainline on the inner cassette sprocket

Mine's a double crank - so it's in the outer ring position of 2 (ie same chainline as middle on a triple).

It's a ball ache because 88mm BCD rings are hard to come by.

What a strange comment. I've never seen a top level roadie with a single ring, nor have I see a WC DH bike with anything more than 1...

Is nobody using one of those Bionicon guides that hang off the chainstay? Are they viable as the only chainguide for a 1x** XC bike?

Why are those chainguides so huge and plasticky?

Would it work with an outer bashring and something like one of those roadie chainsavers on the inside?

Yeah. Once upon a time i had the E-13 SRS and it was a bit noisy actually.

Hence why i've now gone for the simple top guide which looks like it should be silent.

I used a stinger before and it wasn't totally silent, quieter than the superstar one I have now but still not silent.

Clutch derailleur and upper guide would be the quietest solution I reckon. ?

Not a great photo, but setup is an old M760 XT crank, a 32T Gusset chainring, MRP Lopes SL chainguide, 11-36 XT cassette and XT medium cage mech.

Works fine for me, and I can get up pretty much any climb on it still with the 32T ring. I tried a 36 but it was a bit tall for me, tempted to try a 33 or 34 for a tiny bit more speed but to be fair, it's not often I spin out 32/11 unless I'm onroad going downhill.

No, you need a guide on the top.

So how are these clutch rear mechs going to solve this problem (as I read)? Still need a top guide as well?

My DSX is virtually silent. I couldn't seem to set up a Plasma quiet enough so bought the DSX. Its been great so far except the bashring bolt area finally cracking. Filled it with epoxy.

And it works very well, based on my experience. Haven't lost a chain yet, running 1x9 and 1x10, with a ramped Deore 32t when 1x9 and Hope SS 32t for 1x10. Cranks are some Truvativ ones (from my old Boardman), Truvativ bash (Delft chinaware stylee), SLX 11-36 cassette and X9 mech.

Yep, mine's FS with top only. Never had issues dropping the chain, don't pedal backwards is a good start I guess. Dunno otherwise, are you inherently more likely to lose the chain on a FS?

i thought with the suspension adjusting the chain lenght as it goes through the travel would make the chain flap about more, i guess not.
i seem to prefer a guide with a bottom peice though, but as so many get away with this i may try it.

Don't have any ISCG mounts on mine unless i'm mistaken. I therefore assume i'd need a BB mounted system.

You can fit a BB to ISCG mount adapter Weeksy. Allows you a far bigger choice.

No picture but.....
How can you 'struggle with the aesthetics'??? Any 1x10 setup is gonna look better than a multiple chainring setup.
Mine is a single 36 tooth Middleburn Uno chain ring and cranks.
I use a Paul Components Chain Keeper BB that attaches to yer standard externall bb and looks great without anything on the set tube.
36 up front and 36 out back works great on all but steepest stuff.
Like the look of new XX1 11x1 but > £1k for a couple more ratios, I don't think I could sneak that was past the gatekeeper.

No pics either but

SLX Double and bash 170 cranks
BBG Bash

E-13 G Ring 32T
11-34 cassette

Easy peasy to set up and cheap. No problems so far, but interesting to see how it gets on it the Alps but will prob swap to be larger front.

Personal preference i guess. I'm not keen on the way the crank arms look incomplete unless covered by a bash-ring. So any system i go for will have to be both a chainguide and a bash integrated system.

Found a new problem this weekend with a double bashguard setup - on a super muddy ride (post floods lake district), ended up with the gap filling with enough mud that it completely filled / clogged the chainring (mud held captive by the guards). Just sat there spinning cranks with chain riding over the top of all teeth. Had to dig it out quite a few times..... Never had this problem before in 2 years of use.

Above has been ridden for rooty/hilly/sandy xc duties as well as racing, and no sign of dropped chain yet (fingers crossed). Up to a 28t on the rear, not run out of gears yet when climbing (any steeper and i'll get off and carry it!)

e13 xcx st top chain guide

hope 32t front ring

xtr shadow plus mech

now seem to have the chainguide line up a bit better (ie no catching) and its smooth as, ive not dropped the chain on anything so far, and its all been fairly fast paced, extremely rocky!

that ibis above is stunning! id ditch the lopes and just run a top guide, you dont need it with a xtr clutch mech, trust me!

Thanks Oscillate. I would ditch it, but MRP only do two guides for the Mojo the other being a G2 which also has a lower roller. Both are specific Mojo models, BB mounted and adapted to screw into the lower suspension linkage to stop the guide spinning if bashed hard. The mojo doesn't have iscg mounts.

I preferred black with the little Brian Lopes badge on it than the white G2. Agree about the XTR clutch. Was tested thoroughly at the PPDS last week!

Here's my Tracer 1+ fitted with a 34T Middleburn Uno and the top half of an E13 LG1+ - I'd fit the bottom half roller + bash but Intense didn't design the damn thing with enough clearance to get one in there properly without messing up the chain-line/crank spacing. Bl00dy yanks - you'd not believe it was a 160mm frame 🙄

It gets ridden properly and yes sometimes the chain does jump off the bottom but put in a pedal stroke and that "problem" goes away. I will get a clutch mech at some point though as it's a little distracting.

Don't quite get the aesthetics thing either as I reckon bikes looks far better with the single ring up front - each to their own I suppose.

ahhh gotcha! fair enought then, to be honest, i bet you could near enough get away with a chainguide full stop with the clutch mech, i wont risk not having a top guide on mine as its only 75grams, but im pretty sure the chain would stay on just with the clutch

Can also get black guides for the straightline, from CRC so you can ditch the green ones if needed. Awesome guide, actually one of the best parts I've fitted. Silent, no chain slop/slap a perfect part with perfect manufacoring. Really impressed.

You'll not like this, then! 98/99 LX with weirdo inetgral big ring and spider. knackered big ring hacksawed off and made [s]good[/s] passable, Salsa 48T, Paul chainkeeper. Chain's not come off on rocky, steppy, rattly welsh descents. Speed and rattliness limited by rigid forks and lowish drops, though.

ive had a little thought guys and ive decided on a 32t renthal ring with a e13 xcx guide.
was wondering what the chain slap and retention is like with just a top mount?
i had ordered the lg1 tr but it was out of stock, if the xcx does the job ill save a few quid as well.
is a clutch mech maybe prefered with just a top mount, bike is a fs as well?
would appreciate some input, thanks.

I'm running a Renthal ring with E13 xcx along with a XTR clutch mech and I've not even been anywhere close to dropping a chain or had any problems whatsoever. I don't know what it would be like with a normal rear mech though.
