i've got 2 mountain bikes. scandal and a 456. the 456 was awesome when i took it to the alps 2 summers ago but since then it has probably been out 3 or 4 times. and at least 2 of those rides were because 'i hadn't ridden it for a while'
my scandal (SS) is so much lighter that the gears on the 456 aren't even an advantage.
i'm thinking about swapping it for a geared 29er (scandal is 29er) because i'm under the impression i will ride it more.
N+1 is not the answer (i wish it was) as there is no more room for another bike.
Yes, someone else can enjoy and you get all the fun of choosing something new -road bike, tourer, cargo bike, fatbike, cross, fixie etc or even as you say a geared 29er.
Wow, same set up as me. Uncanny.
I have the Scandal nice and light, running rigid, for wooded singletrack and that sort of thing. Also good for a quick blast round the local trails and when it's going to be muddy.
Got the 456 much burlier, 140 fork, big tyres and a dropper post. Much better for big-hill days, it winches up anything 22/34, and goes down anything too ๐ Much more forgiving for long days out.
So, they're both great bikes, set up thus doing different jobs. Nit sure if that helps really, I guess my point is that if you build them differently it may help?
