Im sure ive read somewhere that this is a no-no? but thinking id like to swap the Deore RD-M615 mech that comes as standard on a genesis carbou with a short cage Zee mech i already have... will i explode?
It's the size of the cassette that dictates the mech length not the frame
oh thanks. i believe its a CS-HG50 11-36T - so that should be alright then...?
11-36 is going to be a bit of a stretch for a short cage. I think 28 is the biggest you can run with a short. Medium will work (ish), the max spread is really 11-32.
Edit: Yep, 28 for the DH spec, (Short) and 36 for the freeride (medium)
I am running a 34 N/W - 11-40 with a Zee on a Fatty and a Puffin with no problems
both bike just done the Puffer and still zero issues
im pretty sure my mech is the 32-36 wide ratio one, but ill have to double check...
hot_fiat- the freeride is still a short cage, just set up differently. I (along with many others I've seen) run a Zee FR with a 36T cassette just fine.
So long as you have a single ring up front it'll work fine.
Ah, the random numbers on the shimano website makes sense now.
its a bit better spelt out on CRC

That and how many rings you have up front, more importantly
I run a Zee with 32 front 11 - 36 rear on 2 Fat Bikes and have 22 upfront as well I just cant use 3 smallest cogs when in the 22 tooth - not needed anyway apart from that all works fine ๐
