What effect would it have if I fitted a shock with a different 'tune' than my current shock?
My current Fox shock has a low compression and a F climb tune.
The shock (rockshox) I'm hoping to replace it with has a medium tune.
Both shox's are the same size (184x44)

If it currently has the correct tune then swapping low to medium compression could make the rear end feel more firm and skittery.
What frame is it? A four-bar or VPP-style linkage I guess?

It's for a Giant Trance 2013 (120mm of travel)

That's a VPP (virtual pivot) style system.
I think they usually need low compression tune, so I wouldn't make the switch myself.
