Hi all. Just bought a set of Hope E4’s having only used Shimano for a fair few years. I will be replacing my Shimano discs with the Hope version so the question is can I use my current Shimano caliper adaptors or do I need to buy special Hope ones? I will be replacing 180mm with 180mm btw.
in my experience i had to buy new adapters... i went from XT to V4 though...
Depends. I'm running shimano calipers, hope adapters and hope rotors at the moment.
But it can be a PITA, Hope do 180, 185, 200, 203 and 205mm rotors so it depends what you have! I'd probably budget for new adapters and be happy if you don't need them.
The E4 bodies foul on most non-hope adaptors. Only one I have found to still be okay is an old PM to PM with separate screws for attaching to the frame/fork and the brake to the adapter.
got new adaptors for the hope E4 I just bought.
I found that the braking surface on the shimano rotor is narrower than the hope pads. This resulted in a judder as spider arms came in contact with the pads. This was most noticeable with the front 203mm rotor.
I ended up with hope rotors and adapters. Was a good excuse to get floating rotors.
Thanks all. New adapters it is then. Good excuse to go 200mm up front!
