[#10472210]

has anyone got the latest version of the mw5 winter boots? how are they fairing in the wet and cold so far?

my northwave boots are about done after 5 years of long winters, but too expensive to replace at the min, mw5's are a fair bit cheaper

I generally don't suffer with cold feet per se, so im not too worried about them being slightly less warm than my arctic gtx boots

I have a 2 year old pair, rather than the newest model - looking at the websites though they seem fairly similar though.

IMHO they're not great in the wet (Glasgow). The neoprene collar seems to soak up water and then dump it inside. They're fine if the road is wet but to keep my feet dry when it's raining heavily I wear waterproof socks. After a down pour the whole inside of the boot is soaked.

Perfectly adequate sums them up. They're not startlingly good but they work fine for me as my main winter commuters. You don't have to size up as much as normal Shimano.
They're not 100% waterproof; no boot is, as water eventually gets in that big hole at the top.
Fine in the snow and general wet, waterproof if you're just stood in 3 inches of water.
Not the warmest boot around but again, adequate.
I like mine and they're showing relatively little wear half-way through their second winter and with more than 100 rides done so far.

hmmmmmm so maybe a little disappointing then? they are considerably cheaper than what they are replacing - I guess you get what you pay for scenario!

I don't really want wet feet tbh- then I will have cold feet!

There's no such thing as a waterproof riding boot; it'll always get in by wicking down your skin, socks or leggings eventually.
I'd not say disappointing at all; not significantly different to the more expensive older design of MW81. They work fine but they're hardly anything to write home about. Design of the upper means that they will dry out a bit quicker than the older boots once left wide open. A good balance of performance against value. Mine do smell more than the older boots though...

ok cool - tbh - I can count on 2 hands how many times ive had wet feet from my northwave arctic boots tbh - they really are quite waterproof, I don't want to be having boots that take a week to dry out and stink - may have to have a rethink :/

unless I can find some super cheap northwaves somewhere 🙁

Not about the boots as such, but investing £25 or so in an electric boot/shoe dryer rack was the best investment I ever made! Nice dry shoes, and not force dried either which has got to be good for the long term 🙂

MW7's. Used them for last two years. Only time they start to get wet, is in hissing rain, then the spray/rain from your legs/leggings soaks through. I use waterproof sock in weather like this.

General Peaks riding, warm, toasty and dry. Last time at Llandegla in December it was hissing it down, leggings wet through, wicked into shoes. Still warm and comfy though. I tend to use them most of the time off road, unless it's very dry.

I'm selling a pair I bought last year, they're good, maybe too good. I don't ever wear them.

I don't do epic MTBing and I find myself reaching for overshoes if it gets wet on the road.

Mine coped well with last week's snow - dry comfortable feet after a couple of hour's night ride in windblown whiteness. I don't feel the cold too badly, so didn't want an overly warm boot. Fine in general drizzle/puddle-bashing etc as well.

Only negative to my mind is the rather hard sole rubber; they don't grip very well on wet surfaces, as I discovered when nearly going A over T in the pub (tiled floor) after aforementioned ride...

Got a pair of shimano about 5 years ago. Unless i step in a stream they are brilliant and still going strong. Best bit of bike wear I've ever bought.
