[Closed] Shimano chainrings on direct mount cranks?

[#12140227]

I'm eyeing up a very nice set of direct mount cranks (the SRAM pattern as opposed to the Cinch or Shimano pattern) but would like to re-use some spare Shimano GRX chainrings which have got plenty of life left in them.

I've googled but couldn't find any sort of spider that would allow this, figured SOMEone must be making them?

Alternatively, what are the best 46/30 direct mount chainrings? Praxis get a bit of a bad rep for durability...

Ta

I don't know if a spider would help you? My X9 cranks came with double rings on a direct mount spider which I removed to go 1x, would mean you could fit any chainring that fits a "standard" 104 BCD 4 bolt chainring

GRX has it's own specific chainring bolt pattern, and there's no mileage in a manufacturer making an adaptor to fit a very specific wear item made by someone else, when they could just (repeatedly) sell you the wear item itself...

As above, can't see that being a thing you could get.

But why subject yourself to Sram cranks anyway? Stick with Shimano's much nicer system.

Not SRAM cranks, eeWings 😉

Local shop has a set, I've loved the look of them since they were released, can't resist.

Yeah, this is what I feared.

Don't Praxis do a 110BCD spider?
Dunno if it's the same 110BCD as Shimano, but the spider is definitely Sram compatible

Thanks, is 110BCD 5 arm unfortunately. Smallest rings available appear to be Absolute Black 48/32 which would be fine but extra money on top of already spendy cranks!

Tricky. Maybe I should abandon eeWing dreams and just go Plan A which was Ultegra with AB sub-sub-compact oval rings.

FSA Comet crankset I recently bought with a spider and 96bcd Deckas chainring. No description of the spider in the sale. There are two codes on the inside of the spider. W0116 highlighted, and W0107 greyed out. Maybe that could help with some Google-Fu?

Ah yes. That's stoopid - the one that comes with the cranks is 4 arm. Oh well.

So you are looking at thousand quid cranks and trying to save a few quid with used chainrings? 🙂

Haha, or to put it another way, thousand pound cranks that I reeeeeeeally want would require scrimping everywhere else! 😉

Plus environment, decluttering spares box in garage, Shimano chainrings are good, etc. etc.
