Hi all,
My rigid MTB is 8-speed using a mix of Deore and Acera. My understanding is that I can use Deore and Alivio 9-speed derailleurs for this 8-speed set up. Would I be correct? I ask because I'm entering my 3rd winter and the drivetrain will most likely need an overhaul soon.

You are correct.
I'm running a 9 speed Sora rear mech' with an 8 speed Sora cassette and 9 speed Ultegra shifters.

Thanks JAG. I'll be keeping the shifters and changing the rear mech, cassette, chain, and front chainrings if needed.
