After 1816 miles my chain snapped so it's probably time to refresh the drivetrain. SLX cassettes have jumped from 80 quid to £105 but Deore are "only" £67.50 at Merlin. Has anyone used and compared both?

Was looking at this only this morning.
Deore weighs more but will last longer (if it's the biggest sprockets you normally wear out first)
XT cassette - 470g (2 ali sprockets)
SLX - 534g (1 ali sprocket)
Deore - 596g (fully steel)

Just made the jump. My Deore wore out and replaced it with SLX, performance wise nothing in it. I did fancy the XT for less unsprung mass, but I didn't like the price. I did get the SLX for £80 odd though. For the extra £37.5. Not worth it.

@Wildfires3 How many miles did you get out of the Deore cassette?

Not overly important, just for interest really as the wife has just bought me the Deore. I might tell her later...

@doomanic I got 1600 or so across about 7 months. The RF ring was also shot. I reckon could have maybe gotten a bit more out of the cassette, but it was starting to hurl the chain off the big cog under pressure and in the slop.

I rode from May to errr now.. so it got all sorts thrown at it. I'll see how the alloy rings on the SLX cope.

Think the days of worrying about a few grams are pretty much over, Deore will do the job, the mad pricing that's happening now will hopefully calm down by the time that one wears out!
