i know they need doing, but why do they need doing? having mine done for the first time since having it about a year or so....what exactly does it include and what are the benefits exactly?
only reason i ask is mine is as far as i know running super smooth and felt no different from the day i had it new....
Every year really, they're charged with nitrogen to 300+ psi, when static so in operation the forces on the internal seals is significant. The damping will become worse over time this would be gradual so you wouldn't necessarily notice it.
Also a change of the air seals, re lube of the air can will prolong the life of your body tube (the shaft that goes in and out of the air can)
Services will include different thing from different tuners, I'm currently testing seals to carry out full services on these.
Further to this has any one serviced there own RP23 at home? not just the aircan service but the whole thing? I've access to nitrogen through work and a shock servicing area, just require the info. on how to strip it really. I begrudge paying £100 for a service when I've all the equipment and skill to do it myself (skill is a term I use loosely )
Cheers Mat
easy to follow vid to replace the seals,
Yeah i've "youtubed" it but can't seem to find details of a total stirp down and sevice alla Tftuned or Mojo? I realise this info. isn't going to be readily available as that's how Mojo and Tf make their money hence me asking the STW massive 😉
The problem will be sourcing the seals, knowing the pressure of the gas and IFP settings, like I said I'll be doing these soon as seals are sorted.
If you can keep me posted that would be great LoCo, I have a friend of a friend who works for mojo so may ask him might have to interrogate him a little 😉
if you know the seal sizes (O/D, I/D and section) I can easily get viton seals and back up rings through a company called clarendon our company use. Mail me in profile and we maybe able to help each other out on this!
The trouble you will have is the gas refill as it needs a special tool. You can buy them for about £40 in the states.
I've done the DHX damping service as it dose not need the gas charge. Takes a while to get the oil re-filled and some of the o rings arnt a standard size. Loads of stuff on MTBR.
Yeah heard that about them XXX, need a drawing of said tool and I can turn/mill/ source something I'm sure (got a machine shop too :D)
Amos,
You could do it with a football needle valve and hex key drilled with a hole big enough to take the valve needle, i think.
It's well worth it if all you do is change the oil but to be honest once you have done the full seal rebuild you start to think £80 for a rebuild is very good value.
Email me if you need more info on the needle valve. Will put thoughts into pics....
