I'm looking into setting up a little business as a bit of insurance, as work isn't the most stable environment at the moment and I'm likely to be emptied out in the new year. It is bike related before the stw nazis pipe up, but I can't be any more specific at the moment. The problem I have, is the parcels will range from a 100g padded envelope, to a 2ish kg shoebox size. Hermes charge the same for everything under 5kg and royal mail seem expensive. Anyone got any experience with anyone else? I'll be sending say 20 parcels a day initially

I now send parcels through Collect+ however if you plan on sending 20 odd parcels a day you would need to see if the outlet/shop are happy with taking that many in. My local Collect+ (Spar) hate having parcels knocking about.

Ideally I'm thinking I'd want them to pick up, or be able to drop a load off at a distribution centre and get charged via an account. You can imagine popping into the post office to send a parcel and there's some dick at the counter sending 38 parcels, weighing them individually etc. I don't want to be that dick if I can avoid it!

There are plenty of courier options for businesses. Dispatch bay is quite popular.

You can drop them off @ a Post Office counter and leave the parcels with some money or set up an account and they deal with bulk parcels when they are quite it happens in the small offices! Royal Mail have dropped the prices of smaller parcels recently!

Use Royal Mail my share price depends on it 🙂

You're right there is loads. I reckon I'll end up with royal mail, as I can send the padded envelopes as a letter for next to nothing, I'll just have to pay a bit more for the bigger items

Just be absolutely certain nothing you'll be sending is likely to be construed as being on their 'banned' list...

Royal mail and online business account is simple and easy, account run online, print labels or stamp them and just drop everything off at the dist. centre. You won't get a coleection service unless you spend 15K a year or pay for it - it costs me about £750+ vat/year I think for collection.

DPD & TNT very good I find on parcels. Parcelforce getting heinously expensive, and the likes of Hermes,Yodel etc are really a bit crap.

750 a year's not bad, only 3 quid a trip if you go every weekday. Nice idea
