What are they for? What effect would it have moving the shock linkage?

One for a coil shock and one for an air shock, meant to allow the frame to work well with linear and progressive shocks

Not sure, I guess the slightly different angle/leverage allows the 2 types of suspension to behave in a way that compliments them. I switched the pivot over when I replaced the original monarch with my dhx 5 coil
