I'm looking at a set of tyres for my Cove, want something fast and grippy for use in Marathon Events and some XC races if I get round to any this summer.
I'm in the process of lightening the bike a bit; swapping crossrides for WTB Laser Disc XC on Hope Pro II's, Raceface Evolve/Atlas finishing kit for Thomson & USE Atom Bars. So I thought tyres are next.
On On-One they've got the RR's in ORC & Evo compounds, is the much difference other than the 65g's per tyre?
I run Evo 3C NN's on my FS and love them.
Also would a 2.25" be fine on a WTB Laser Disc XC rim?
I've got racing ralphs and I like them- they're fast and light, but cornering in the wet is terrible. Even hitting wet roots or wood has decked me a couple of times. Don't know if the rons are the same. They are good for the trailcentre use though
If you like NNs you will love RoRos. They are much lower profile than Nics - at least 10mm shallower sidewalls for the 2.25 and although the tread pattern is not dissimilar, the Ron is generally less burly and noticeably lighter. They grip like the proverbial in all but proppa mud and are very, very fast.
Downside of this stellar performance is the astronomical wear rate - they are visibly worn after every ride - and of course they are kindof expensive. For such a lightweight performance tyre I thought they would be Puncture City but they never flatted once.
If you are going to get some, I wouldn't hesitate to get the 3C derivative
I really like Rons, but they're not great in the wet. They've got more tread in the middle than a Ralph, but less on the shoulders.
They do wear pretty quickly, and can be fragile in rocky areas, but they're very light and I find them nicely grippy. Predictable too, they don't suddenly let go or anything.
steve - just mtfu and stick on some ralphs! 😉 they've seen me though the dyfi and merida's just fine
Two cube special triple C ordered in a fetching grey. Can't beat £19.99 a tyre.
CP true, nice to have a bit more grip in the corners though 😉
tried a rocket ron for the 1st time at a race on sunday. They have amazing grip! much much better than the ralph they replaced
Rocket Ron Performance are £35 a pair from On One - went up easily tubeless on ZTR Crests & don't loose air.
