Hi Chaps,

Does anyone here own a Spearfish? I'd be intrested to know your thoughts, I'm after a short travel 29er and torn between the Salsa and an Anthem 29er.

I've had two post-2009 26er Anthems, and they were great for long rides and racing. But I do like the lines on the Spearfish, plus you I pretty much wouldn't swap anything out on one - where as I'd be buying new wheels for the Anthem straight away.

Thoughts and photos welcome 😉 And in true STW fashion - recommend your bike if there's an alternative I'm not thinking about.... under £2k.

Cheers

Ricks

Hi

I've had a Spearfish for a year. It's a fantastic bike - just enough suspension to make it fly on rough trails and added comfort on long rides but without feeling all wallowy and removed like big travel bikes do. I've won a fair few events on it and never felt tired or battered afterwards - Gorrick 100, Erlestoke 6hr solo and D2D 12hr solo.

I owned one for a year, it was a great fast XC bike, really enjoyed it! Heavier than I expected, but not ridiculously so.

Cheers Chaps,

That's a very detailed report Gee 🙂

Given the price of them, and that they come with decent rims, and a very decent spec - I'd be hard pressed to build something to a similar spec from second hand-but-new STW parts.

Another happy owner here. Used mine for 24hr solos, quick single track blats and down the Snowdon Ranger.

I'd also be considering the Whyte M109...under £2k, 100mm travel, a little slacker and nice short chainstays compared to the Spearfish/Anthem

Good Call Nuke, hat's a good spec on the M109.

Price is still £600 more than the Spearfish mind.... and not sure about that Whyte own branded wheelset...

I've had an Anthem X1 (29'er) for just over a year now. Fitted with a dropper you can ride things no 100mm bike should be capable of with ease.
I've not won anything I've entered but I've never felt beat up at the end of it

I bought weeksy's spearfish and with some nice lightweight wheels I reckon it's a great balance of enough squish to take sting out of the trails but really impressed at the lack of bob when claiming out of the saddle.
Also IMO nicer looking than the anthem!

With old wheels and now has blue seatpost collar and different post and saddle but you get the idea!
