Took delivery this morning of a brand spanking new set of U-Turn Lyriks. When pulling them out of the packaging I noticed there was a small amount of oil on the inside of the plastic bag. Anything to worry about (have heard that there may be an O-ring issue in the MC unit of the current model)? I've still to get my frame resprayed and won't be fitting the forks till this is done, so I won't know for a while whether the forks are behaving themselves - grateful for any feedback from current owners
Mikey
I think manufacturers deliberatley oil components as they will not be sure how long they will sit on the shelf. This protects them against moisture. If it's a small amount of oil I would'nt worry about it. Clean up the forks, store them upside down for a couple of days and then right side up and recheck.
Even if they aren't leaking now, be prepared: They WILL leak at some point; most likely out of the top of the mission control unit. It's not a big deal, but don't store them upside down and check the oil levels on a fairly regular basis.
Sorry Mikey, I store my 2 year old Lyriks upside down regularly and they have never leaked from anywhere.
Get a bit of leakage from mine, through the top of the MC controls. Looks bad, but when I actually opened them up to top-up the oil, I hadn't really lost a significant amount.
According to TFTuned, the o-rings are a bit skinny and the problem can be solved by fitting some fatter ones.
Thanks for the info, guys. Like I said, it'll be a while till I actually get to use the forks in anger but now I know what to expect. To think that the forks that these ones are replacing used to have too much oil in them...

I meant when they do start to leak. I didn't mean storing them upside-down will cause them to leak, although it is not a recommended way of storing them.
