Hello everyone!

My name is Andrew and I am 37, live just outside Exeter - I have started cycling to get fit and have some fun and I guess I am at the point now where I am really enjoying my riding, whether it is off-road (Haldon, Killerton) or on-road (Exe Vally Way and local roads).

I tend to stick to easy trails at the moment but would like to get (a lot) more into off-road, but just don't know many places, Haldon is always really busy, so don't go often. Killerton is okay but not much there...

Hoping there may be some other riders close to Exeter as I am looking to spend some time on Woodbury Common this summer - I read a few posts (old posts) of members offering to meet other members up there; does that still happen?

Don't be put off by me being old or new as I will give most things a crack, if only once!

Thanks for being nice ๐Ÿ™‚

There's a friendly bunch that meet on Wednesday evenings at the Ley Arms in Kenn at 6.30pm or up at the top where the cycle path comes out near the A38 bridge at 7pm. The rides are normally 14-15 miles, at a decent pace, but it's normally a mixed bunch (age, speed and gender) so we wait for people ๐Ÿ˜‰ we normally get back down to the Ley Arms for a pint at about 9.15pm. No lights needed this time of year either.

Im in Exeter and always keen to find more playmates.

No one I ride with (when i can persuade them to come out at all) is that fussed either way. You may find we are quicker if you are a novice, but no one would be even slightly bothered.

There is BUCKETS of riding on woodbury, so it helps to follow someone. Ive been up a few times, but always end up not where i expected. Depends on your point of view if this is a problem or not...

As above, Woodbury has a lot of trails. I ride there most weeks and have been going there on and off for 20 years ๐Ÿ˜ณ Lordy that make me feel old! Anyway, I still occasionally find bits I've not ridden before.

Re: Haldon riding - it's a loose grouping rather than a club, friendly bunch though. I try and get out as often as possible, but life often gets in the way! I know the Exeter MTB club do evening rides up on Haldon too.

Also, everyone loves pub rides. Found "the beer engine" yet?

Is this an off-road cycle? Would need to know which bike to bring!

I have been to the Beer Engine, it's not too far from where I live! Apparently a nice walk from my house to there, but last time I tried it we got a bit lost!

Didn't make it last Wednesday due to finishing work slightly too late - did everyone else meet?

Will try to get there this week, if a meet is on?
