I’m thinking about getting a semi slick rear tyre like a rock razor for the summer but I’ve already got a worn out hr2 with decent side knobs. Will it do a similar job?
How worn are the braking edges on the HR2? or could you cut them back in?
I was looking at doing the same with the DHF I've run on the rear or the new rock razor I have and I think although the DHF has good side knobs left, the braking edges are too worn to warrant running it.
Try the HR2 but cut the side knobs to be sharp and I reckon it will be fine.
But, I have a Rock Razor and its bloody brilliant. Buy one then test them both.
Will it do a similar job?
No
Rock Razor and its inferior competitor the Minion SS are both outstandingly grippy when new. The sharp edges on those little tread blocks bite into many types of dry ground and yet they roll like a slick. This ability lasts as long as the edges stay sharp then the tyre becomes a part-worn HR
HTH
SS rears are surprisingly grippy. More so than a reasonably worn DHR2 in my experience.
Pick a good one. Like the Slaughter or Minion SS, and it will last longer than 10 minutes (Rock Razor).
I really rate the RR, used it in Wales/BPW & never had an issue. (I did read negative things about the lighter versions though so went with the SG version).
