It says 'bike forum' at the top which is perfect to me.

I like the 'jumble' and as someone else mentioned it was the road riding topics on here that got me interested in the road riding in the first place. Went out on the mtb last night for the first time in a while, the road work definitely helps.

Actually, where would cyclocross fit in if there was a 2 forums?

It's a nose bleed waiting to happen.

Road cycling is having a renei..rene..rena..is quite popular at the moment. Come Autumn it'll be cyclo cross everything. Then over winter the road bikes will be put to one side. There's time and room for everything.
One forum.

On a side note, there has been a bit of whinging that not enough is being done to promote mountain biking. So probably best not divide the members. You never know some might have rekindled their interest and be looking to set up a race series ๐Ÿ™‚

How many times has the 'sub divisions' question cropped up on here, even when you used to be STR? Blimey, you'll be wanting a Coffee Forum next... ๐Ÿ˜‰

GoFar/STW has always had the jumble of topics in one place (or, at least, very few places). It has built a character of its own that seems to be successful; no need to change that base character IMO and changing the format to multi-fora would change that identity.

Gotta love stw
I have no interest in road bikes how can I help keep them out of my life?

get a road bike and shut up!

But yes they are fun
so get one
And shut up ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have been an occasional roadie for a few years now, only dabbling, could give it up anytime i wanted, but yesterday I had a day off work to go riding so I drove to cumbria.....and I did a road ride. I feel a line has been crossed. I can only think I was influenced by the tdf

The forum just about works as it is, but increase traffic (which has to be a goal of the forum) and it will not. ๐Ÿ’ก

The forum turnover is too fast for anyone that doesn't live on here. IMHO it limits the potential success of the forum, and dilutes the content. If there is enough road content, it should get it's own forum. TBH I don't understand why people can't find a road bike forum to discuss road bikes on, I am sure there are enough of them ๐Ÿ™‚

I'd rather every third thread be a road topic than a what tyre/flat pedal shoe repeat...

I've seen too many forums for various sports, interests and owner's clubs flop completely because they weren't busy enough to maintain the huge number of sub forums the admins had stupidly decided to create. A site like Pistonheads for example is massive, has a huge amount of traffic as it's based on a popular interest (fast cars) so is able to pull off plenty of sub forums. However this one is only just posted in enough to cope with the separate Bike and Chat subforums, so more is just going to make it feel quieter and split the posters up.

Yep, and seem to be written in some sort of code.

It says 'bike forum' at the top which is perfect to me.

It likely says that at the top of most motocross, enduro, motorbike, and BMX forums too - but as it says that in the context of a motocross, enduro, motorbike, or BMX forum people seem to get that 'bikes' doesn't mean banana barred tour bicycles.

Could just put all roadie stuff in the chat forum, but it'd dilute the chiropractic renewable holy communist ghost content, so I propose the roadie threads go here: http://forums.roadcyclinguk.com/ ๐Ÿ˜†

I don't have the remotest interest in road bikes. Tried that, and nearly died from the shear spirit-crushing boredom of it.

As a result of this, I simply don't bother reading threads about road bikes. Same as I wouldn't bother reading a thread about rugby. Or floorboards. Or vegan recipes.

I understand this is a fairly revolutionary concept ๐Ÿ˜‰

lol @ Binners ๐Ÿ˜†

Do you have a program that monitors the forum and if any thread contains the words "road bike", it automatically posts an "I find road riding mind-numbingly dull" comment? ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah lots of sub-fora and rules about what we can and cannot post and where we can post it.

THAT is the way to make this place feel more inclusive and welcoming..

I saw a big fat roadie in full sky team gear this morning but he had a really shit bike, was driving so couldn't take a picture. There's no-one like that here is there?

Next time I will wave.

(not really me.........i don't have sky kit but my road bike is cheap and cheerful and I think I live in the hinterland between big and big fat. ๐Ÿ˜‰

stilltortoise - I'd actually be gutted if I couldn't get my oar in on roadie threads with my lofty disdain for anything skinny tyred ๐Ÿ˜€

I've posted this up a few times before, but its quite amusing

It would be a bit like David Cameron's porn filter - who decides where to draw the line where road riding ends and MTBing begins?

I'd love to see Road as a separate forum. Or just all moved to Chat since it's all offtopic for a mountain bike forum. But hey, it took years to get a separate "for sale" and "wanted" forum and even that most obvious change in the world seemed to upset people, so it'll never happen.

@ klumpy
I am pretty aware that 'bike forum' covered bicycles here.

I'm sure you actually understood what I meant though ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm also not even slightly interested in roadie stuff. Rarely open an obvious road thread (thought this one was going to be a bitchfest - disappointed ๐Ÿ˜ˆ )

No need for a separate section - confine it to the chat/argument arena perhaps. Or the For sale section under the thread - For Sale: Fun - no longer required as i ride a road bike ๐Ÿ˜€

I'm just amazed by how many people clicked on a thread called

"Road riding and all that it is...."

Only to post that they have no interest in road riding

I love STW. Don't change a thing

I ride my cyclocross bike most. That's a bike that is fast off road, and on road. I do both. Where would that go then?

As above(ampthill).

mods could you make this a sticky. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I like the mix. Road riding is fun too. There is pleasure to be found in the smooth and rhythmic you know.
