What's the best local road for a spot of flat interval training in the evenings? Not too busy, not many interruptions...?

Haha! Have you been to Wokingham? I'm a Berkshire dweller and the traffic in the vicinity is terrible cos of the high population. It is on a through route between the M4 and M3 motorways.

I will have a look at my map but when I was road riding I tended to go westwards towards Swallowfield, Mortimer etc.

If you want to ride with a group, a roadie mate of mine is organisor of a chaingang that rides out from Crowthorne which is a couple of miles away. E-mail in profile if I can help ๐Ÿ™‚

Some of the roads out north toward Twyford are not too bad. If you fancy a quite corner of the district the roads around Wargrave create a very quite loop of a couple of miles but it is a bit out of the way of Wokingham. Otherwise c_g is right.

I don't want a group ride, I need to do intervals which isn't much fun in a group. I don't mind riding for 20 mins to get their either ๐Ÿ™‚

Currently in the St Anne's Manor Hilton...

OK, point taken. Asking a silly question - how long does the flat road need to be?

(Only did intervals back in my running days).

Right, been looking at my mapping software as well. Bramshill Forest (Eversley), grid ref SU779614 westwards to 745613 - it definitely won't be deserted but is straight and fairly level with good visibility. I believe the speed limit is 50mph.

From 745613 you can head northwards to 742633 alongside the west of Bramshill Forest. This is definitely quiet, again straight with good visibility.

You will struggle with quiet roads unless you are prepared to ride/drive a bit further out.

Hope this is of some use.

There's a couple of flat-ish stretches from Twyford to Binfield or Wokingham that are used as part of a 10k TT training route for local clubs.
Or there's there's the A4 from Maidenhead-Reading.....

Sounds good, will check those out tonight - thanks folks ๐Ÿ™‚

I did think about the A4 - I used to ride from Newbury to Theale when I worked there, it was a great TT. Very busy indeed but the road was so wide it didn't matter really.
