Toying with sorting my winter/commute road bike. Currently 3X10 with a trekking (48/36/26) chainset and triple 105 STIs. Bike is an old ti cross bike - a gravel bike before gravel bikes. Now lives with guards and a rear rack. The commute is a beast - back road highland tarmac 26 miles each way and the way home is lots of up against the prevailing wind but there is 10 miles of flat each way near work that a time trailer would salivate over.

Triples are a bit of a faff. My old 9spd xt mech finally died and the replacement medium cage road rear mech is not loving the gear range of the triple leaving me with very few benefits and the usual triple front mech nurturing nause to stop it rubbing so I'm tempted to use a spare double (actually a powermeter too) and widish cassette to get my sorry arse home after a long day in adverse conditions.

Question though - can a 10spd triple sti work with a double front mech in terms of pull ratio - can't find anything to confirm. I'd obviously have to screw the bottom stop in to stop it dropping the chain into a non existent granny.

I did consider making it 1X (there is a thread about that elsewhere someone started) and might still consider but I'm not convinced this commute and the ratios and jumps a 1X would induce would play too nicely.
