Currently got a Specialized Diverge Smartweld and it has been good, especially after upgrading the wheels to Hope 20five.
I am thinking of upgrading the frame. I only really do road commuting and road training on it. But the roads in Surrey are bad enough as it is!
Thinking about a Tripster AT which I can get from Merlin for £595 with my gold discount.
Anything else about I should think about? Lots of similar bikes around but not sold as frames.
What size frame do you need?
New or 2nd hand?
What's your budget?
Steel, aluminium or carbon?
Are you bothered about the type of bottom bracket? Bolt thru? Do you need just mudguards or do you want pannier mounts too?
I'm currently riding a recommendation from mboy A saracen Avro. Full Carbon, threaded BB. 15mm bolt thru front 142 rear. Takes full mudguards.
Thanks for the reply.
New frame, bought as frame only as have all the components/wheels from my Diverge.
Budget is £600.
Probably going to be aluminium or maybe carbon. Don;t want anything heavier than a Tripster AT so steel is out.
I have a push fit adapter in my Diverge so can use that on the new frame or threaded.
Bolt through is what I want. I use mudguards all year round. No rack.
Cheers. Will look at the Avro but on quick look seems to only whole bikes only.
Those Smartweld frames are really nice, I remember the first Allez one being pretty light at 1300gm or so.
I'm not sure a £600 off the shelf frame will offer you any benefits (you've not really said what you are lookng for from an upgrade)

Problem is the Diverge has a crack in it. Specialized have been really good and new frame is on it's way. It's a different colour and won't match my fancy red hope hubs now! So I was thinking about an alternative.
It has been great for getting to work and I have done some great road rides around the surrey hills on it.

Apologies for the swerve, but where did it crack? (worried owner content)
AH OK, I have no idea what frames will complement red hubs 🙂
It was the raw finish with red logo and graphics so looked good with red hubs 🙂
New frame is darker shade with orange!
Frame cracked on the weld where the top tube meets the seat tube. Still rides great!
Just buy a bunch of gold anodized bits and embrace the red/orange/yellow spectrum of fire.

Notsosmartweld, then?
