So we leave at the end of the month to Italy for a month! We’ve been plenty times before and seen lots of mountain bikers around but has anyone any pointers for places to ride around that area?

Looking for any info, websites, local clubs or places to find routes so I can make the most of the August sun while I’m there.

Thank you in advance!

Richard @ Ridgeline is based just up the road from Lucca in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. Give him a call, probably best to tag along for a day or more.
Some great riding nr Massa, and there were some fantastic trails in Calci, but they had huge wildfires last year, so not sure these are still about (No doubt Davide and the locals have been rebuilding).

www.mtblunigiana.com

These guys have charted lots of routes around Massa and further north. Website not working for me for some reason but have a look at their facebook page if not. Lots of excellent routes.

Download Trailforks. The Italians are pretty good with it.

Some local riding just north of Lucca. More riding further into the Apuane Alpi.

Also lots of trails on the hill between Lucca and Pisa.

Thank you for all the advise, I've dropped Richard a message as it seems Apuane Alpi is only an hour away by car.

I'm going to drop the guys in Massa a FB message as Massa is only 40mins away from us as well!

Trailforks downloaded and now taking up most of my (working) day.

Keep the ideas coming.

If you do head to Barga there used to be some riding just round the corner at Il Ciocco - I think they may have even had a WC/DH held there back in the early 90s. Beautiful part of the world.

If you drive and you decide to explore the delightful town of Lucca, don't do what my brother did and blunder, twice, into the vehicle-free zone inside the walls. The following year he hired a car again in France and very soon afterwrds received two fines from Lucca town hall, posted to his USA address. Did I laught? No of course not...
