Have a set of force cranks with a bit of heel rub and a few scratches from a dropped chain. Just watched a YouTube vid on sanding the clear coat and then using clear nail polish to refurb. Anyone done this?

Also if I fancied removing the decals and going for a complete black look would there be any issues with sanding the decals off and using nail polish to re coat?

I'd have thought itd be really hard to get a decent, even coating on an entire crank with nail varnish. Not tried it though.

Just go and buy a rattle can of clear lacquer, which fills in scratches and "wets" the finish. Apply several coats, allowing to dry and rubbing down gently then de-dusting in between. Don't expect it to be as durable as factory-applied lacquer though.

I read a thread on WW in which the guys were discussing the savings to be had by sanding down Sram Reds, so leaving it raw is always an option. Some of the finished cranks looked okay - a nice stealthy matt.
