[#5155087]

Been riding a lot of road lately and my current saddle (Off a Giant TCR, bit like a Charge Spoon) is OK for an hour or so but then gets really uncomfortable.
I know saddles are very subjective but just wanted to know what peoples favourites were.
Looking for something not too expensive as well..... don't want the saddle to be worth more than the bike 🙂 (2011 Carrera Virtuoso).

Fizik Aliante for me (on a proper road bike, ISM adamo on the tri/tt bike).

Also think about your shorts too - you stay seated in one position far more on the road and quality shorts that suit make more difference than they do off road. With the right shorts for me the saddle almost becomes an irelevance.

Get your butt measured at a Spesh or Bonty dealer (or DIY) & then look for one that is the correct width.

I'm a Fisik Arione fan. On all my road bikes now and done 120 miles continuos on it last summer on the Dunwich Dynamo. For comparison I use a Ghobi and Flite on the off road bikes.

Just bought an Specialized Avatar Comp Gel for my road bike and it's very comfortable.
Wanted a Romin, but a bit too expensive.

Fisik also do a test thing with some dealers so you can try them out.

SLR for me too. I have a Fizik Aliante that came on my Synapse I'd be prepared to part with if you want one of those. Never ridden.

If you go on the Chicken Cyles website, they have a list of their dealers that do saddle fitting for Selle Italia fitting which I found helpful.

I've used a Ti-railed Ritchey WCS road saddle off-road for the last 10 years. It's done a ridiculous amount of stuff and never skipped a beat.

Spcialized Romin. Have them on all my bikes. Best saddle I've ever had and well worth the money.

It's the type saddle that you sit in rather than on because of its curved profile. A bit of a faff to get the right position but once there it's lovely.

Romins are the most horrendous saddles on earth, just couldn't get on with mine. I like flat saddles like toupes (expensive/rivas (which are cheap, use them on my mtbs). saddle recommendations are pretty pointless though, tbh.

Romin is good, the Romin Evo is even better.

True..... although I bought charge spoons for my hardtail and full suss after good recommendations on here and they are great, but don't really suit me for longer road rides on the road bike. I do find these threads useful just to see what other people are using.....

One of these for me. Looks minimal but very comfy for me, but then I'm 10.5 stone.

You may have a different experience on it.

Been using a Spesh Toupe for years, switched to a Romin, went back to my Toupe, tried a Fizik Antares and have just bought a new Toupe as its what works best for me.

The Fizik is on the classifieds for £35 if anyone is interested ( two rides old ).

VERY subjective!

My favourite saddle, by some margin, is the Specialized Romin in 143mm width. But there are people out there that get sore just looking at them!

Many people on this forum love Fizik's, especially the Gobi or the Antares. I can't sit on either for more than 2 minutes! They are absolute agony for me. Likewise everyone's favourite, the Charge Spoon... I had 3 of them in all, desperately tried to get used to them. Ended up not enjoying riding my bikes! Realised it was the saddle and got rid of them, not looked back since.

Can't stress how important getting your sit bone width measured is, and then working out what shape (flat, round, semi-round) saddle suits you. For me, I find I need a cutout to relieve perineal pressure, but many people don't like that!

Try a few... Then buy the one you like most!

Except no one ever bothered with this for 70 odd years and more of cycling history, but they still rode bikes....

I thought a Giro Xen was a helmet, not a saddle?

We rode mountain bikes without suspension, disc brakes, wide handlebars or dropper posts for years too... But since each one has come along, they have improved the riding experience for most people significantly enough that they wouldn't be without any of them these days.

By all means go down the sore arse cos you can't be bothered to get it measured route if that's your plan... Or if you'd rather, buy 20 different saddles til you finally find the one that fits! I'm just glad I got mine measured, cod now I have saddles that fit me properly on all my bikes...
