[#12890146]

I’m after a carbon wheel set with the following criteria:

700c

19mm up to max 21mm inner rim width.

Shimano HG freehub,

Centrelock disc

148x12,

110x12

Carbon

Less than £1500.

Must be in stock in the UK and available as a set.

For use on my gravel/road e-bike which is 70% used on the road. Currently I have a set of Roval C38s which came on the bike and I’d have a second set but it seems you can’t buy them in Boost versions only standard and in any case the off the shelf ones have a DT Swiss 370 hub with a “Ratchet LN” (as opposed to the 350 with the slightly better “Ratchet” which is on the stock wheels supplied with the bike) 🤷‍♂️.

So far I’ve looked at Hope RD40 and DT Swiss HEC 1400

I don’t like the look of the Hopes unfortunately as I know everyone loves Hope hubs so I’m erring towards the DT Swiss (why is nothing in stock in the UK and when it is in stock it’s 25-30% more expensive than everywhere else? Don’t answer that, I know why. FFS! 🙄 )

Anyway,  offer up your suggestions if you will… Ta

The HEC's are pretty much the only proper road boost carbon wheels built from the ground up for E-road bikes.

Hard to look past them TBH.

Oh and they look cheap in EU websites because they don't include UK vat when you look at them from here, VAT and admin usually be added on arrival by HMRC so factor that into your calculations.

Yeah but it’s not just stuff over £125. It’s pretty much everything, rotors, chains, pedals etc etc.

I’ll look a bit closer at the HEC wheels then if I can find some in stock at a reasonable price.

Just Riding Along.
I’ve got a set of Monitor Carbons which are most of the way to that spec (mine are non-boost). I think the internal width is wider though. For a gravel(ish) bike - why do you want such narrow rims anyway?

£800 ish and like the other 2 sets of JRA wheels I’ve got, build quality is faultless and while the hubs aren’t glam, like Hope or DT they’ve also been boringly reliable

.

Well I've got the wheels that came on the bike that I will use for gravel riding so I want some for road riding and I figured narrower than the other set was a good thing. Not sure really if it is or not but I have options for narrower tyres I guess if the rims are narrower. I'll take a look at JRA... 👍

I’m talking internal rim width here. The stock wheels supplied with the bike are 21mm internal,  my mtb wheels are 25mm and 30mm and both  of those sets would be way too wide to put on my road bike for road riding.

I suppose I’m after both aero and lightness.

depends on your tyre size really.  I use Light Bicycle WR50 rims on my Tarmac with 28c tyres, the inner dimension on those rims is just under 25mm and outside of 32.  The tyres measure 32mm on the rim.  Anything narrower tyre wise and you need a narrower rim but 19mm is very narrow these days.

I've also got some WR50's with 28mm tyres, nice and light, stable in the wind and really nicely finished.

Right, so the lovely people at 18bikes were reading this thread and have been in touch to offer me a deal not to be missed on the HEC 1400s so I have ordered some of them. 🙂

NWD on Friday hopefully. 😎
