Just fitted a child seat to my tricross to take the wee man out in - with him on board there's plenty of weight over the back wheel, about 20kg. It's already broken two spokes in a week, and wasn't that great a wheel to begin with. Any recommendations for a replacement? Cheers ๐
Rims, either Mavic A719 or Rigida Grizzly. You could do with a 36 or 40 spoke wheel to be on the safe side, 48 are available but probably overkill. Worth talking to a touring bike specialist such as Spa Cycles in Harrogate or SJS Cycles in Somerset.
get the original rebuilt using good spokes by a good wheel builder an it will be fine ....
and if he is 20kgs he wont be in that seat for long .
alesa sputnik or endevour rim
sapim strong spokes
xt hub
built by spa cycles of harrogate
strong enough for 21stone of ton and a weeks camping gear.....
I agree with ton. I have a Sputnik rim built onto an XT hub by Spa for the commuter. Been excellent, really strong and easily copes with the all up load of around 115kgs of me and my commuting kit that I hang on the bike.
Thanks for the recommendations. The bairn is just 11 kg, but the rack and seat is well heavy. Also have one of those hamex paniers that you can slide the seat leg into (a bit shyte tbh).
Spa Cycles are touring specialists so will give good advice.
