How much can you mix these up? E.g. I've just bought a frame with a 5th element coil shock on it which is 2" stroke. Unfortunately the current spring is a little (very!) soft for me. Obviously the best bet is to buy a 2" travel spring, however there appears to be more room on the shock body, so can I use a spring designed for a longer shock stroke e.g. a 2.75" spring? I'm not expecting more travel as the damper stroke dictates this, just wondering if I can use a spring that a friend has laying about.

If it fits, yes you can, fox fit 2.25 stroke springs on 2inch stroke shocks as standard,

Cool, thanks, does it effect the spring rating in anyway (suspect not and that this is a stupid question!)

No,.. The spring rate stays the same, a 650lb x 2.25 (for example) spring will still take the same force to compress per inch as a 650 x 2

So long as you can still get the correct preload you should be OK.

I've a Progressive Ti spring in 400lbs flavour if that's of interest.

Cool, thanks all.

Sorry Rickos, not heavy enough for me. I've got a 350lb and need a 500lb, otherwise a ti one would have been great.
