what do you reckon is the quickest way to get up to speed on a bike?
Say from a stopped start at a traffic light I reckon there's 3 ways.
1. Start in small gear big cog and quickly flick up through the gears as you pick up speed.
2. Start in high gear little cog and pedal as quickly as you can (slowly at first obvisouly) to get up to speed.
3. Somewhere in between, which is what I tend to do. Standard 3x9 set up I'll put the front in middle and the back like 3 from the very biggest, then I'll pedal as quickly as possible and flick the front to the big ring and carry on.....
but which is better? ..... there's only way to find out..
Depends a lot on traction, incline and all sorts of things.
I personally find I always start on the middle ring and flick through gears until I'm up to the correct cadence ๐

Hold on to the back of a motorbike.

Pretty sure you can out-accelerate gravity for short bursts.
I suppose it's personal, you want the highest gear you can really get the power down in, so that you can sustain it for longer without spinning out/shifting, but what that gear will be, will vary. I think my tendancy is to hit too high a gear tbh, it feels good but it's probably not that fast.

If you can reach 22mph in a second on a bicycle, then yes, you can ๐

Personally wouldn't take the risk of having my chain snap with traffic around me.
On a quiet road prob middle ring and flick through the gears at the back.

Wear a cape for ultimate acceleration

Can't reach 22mph in a second. Might be able to reach 2.2 in a tenth though ๐
How much time do you reckon you lose switching from one chainring to another? Shifting on the cassette should be fairly quick as you're going down the block.
Personally I start in a biggish gear and use my enormous leg strength to pull me through. Not sure it's the fastest, but it makes me feel like more of a man
Pedal really really hard
definitely to make motorbike revving noises with mouth, twist your grips, stand and stamp on the pedals as hard as you can, ride about 10 yards and fall over exhausted. had this demonstrated on sunday, works and looks great in mud with people behind you.
๐ <- in case anyone thinks that's serious.
... if gears are working well, start low and change up fast, much like a car. but not using granny, front shifting under power is how you break chains?
**** gears!
Have a nice hot curry - then go on the bike.........
was expecting a video like this
which don't really accelerate that well do they. so nerdy i love it.
This guy is way more impressive..
wth? he had the whole road.
this is more like it, i present: The Black Shadow. ๐ฎ
