My new (to me) Starling Murmur... Now to get the wee beast dialled in and get some miles on it! 😀

The way you've routed that back brake is upsetting me. It's going to rub that lovely paint job. The bike is a lovely thing.

Interesting change from all things carbon and Evil to pretty much the other end of the spectrum.

The angle the hose is coming out of the caliper? Necessitated sadly by the position of the hose guides. I agree it's not ideal, but I'd have needed a 6" longer hose (and it would have lassoo-ed passing wildlife!) to have had it exiting the caliper at a more natural angle sadly.

Interesting change from all things carbon and Evil to pretty much the other end of the spectrum.

A change is as good as a rest as they say. Spent the last 2 1/2 years riding Evils, still love them to pieces, fancied a change that was a bit more home grown so to speak.

That is lovely. I thought the blue one was nicer but can't decide now.

I think HG is referring to the routing at the headtube. Cables should go around the headtube people!

No - that the hose comes out of the lever and down the non-drive side fo the frame, instead of looping around the head tube. The hose will rub the frame when you turn the bars as a result.

Looks lovely apart from your saddle, that is an abomination 😀

Interested in your thoughts on how it rides.

Santa Cruz routing does the same ie the wrong side. Drives me potty but I suppose its done to fit US brake set up. Starling have no excuses!

(And, yeah, that brake routing round the head tube… hmm. Love it otherwise, though. Can't resist a bit of purple.)

Yeah, you're kind of stuck with that because of the internal routing - it does pretty much avoid the rub by sending the cable straight into a port though

That was very disappointing, I must say. I'm kind-of glad Prince wasn't still around to see it.

Why don't Giant make a purple Reign though? They're missing a trick there.

Digressing here from Mboys lovely bike but the Tallboy is external brake routing all the way.

Back to Starling...would love a Beadyeye singlespeed in 29er. Just because.

I quite agree...

BUT... This bike needs a SERIOUSLY long brake hose on the back. Brake hose was pre cut to an already long 1550mm or so, but I need another 150mm or so to route round the head tube. So I'll order another hose and get it sorted at some point and re-do the gear cable too. Have put some spare off-cuts of invisiframe on there for now to stop any cable rub.

Love the Chrome stickers on the purple looks very classy.

Had to get them done separately, Joe only does white or black normally. Glad I spent the extra, I'm chuffed to bits with how they've turned out!

You gotta have a talking point! I love that saddle (it is comfy too) precisely because of that! Besides, a purple Fizik would have clashed slightly I feel... 😆

Starling have no excuses!

Joe has created the routing so it can be done any way, sadly as explained above, I don't have a long enough brake hose. Will sort out in the near future...

You've seen this…?

I have now! That has taken colour coordination to another level to be fair...

Cheers, gravel rash has pretty much healed, got about 50% strength back in my thumb so gonna try ride this weekend for the first time in almost a month! Will be taking it a bit easy though to be fair.

You had to go there eh! 😆

Yeah, it's into tacky territory. Nicely crafted, but a bit tacky.

I'd say the hose was on the correct side of the headtube but should be below the gear cable.

I hate cables crossing the headtube, it looks messy and you end up with miles and miles of cable you don't need.

Yeah well, so do I! 😆

Joking aside, I took a bit of a risk with the colour, did wonder if it wasn't a bit much so to speak. Once I'd got the chrome decals on it and smattering of monochrome parts, it started looking way better than I'd even expected!

It's had a couple of laps of the car park out the back of my shop so far, but that's it. Wheelbase is a (to me) massive 1245mm, 60 whole mm longer than my Evil Wreckoning was! The reach feels pretty much spot on, I was worried it might feel a touch long @ 460mm (I'm 5ft10 but long legs and short torso relatively speaking) with the 50mm stem, but it feels just about ok. Could always swap to a 40mm stem I guess if I feel the need.

😆

Notice the complete absence of colour everywhere (Maxxis and Burgtec logos aside) apart from the frame...? 😉

I'm not a huge fan of the slack jawed stuff you lot ride but I'm loving the 90's twist on a modern theme.

Is it dirty yet, really thats all I want to know..

I was keeping an eye out for the full build pics. It's a lovely looking bike.

Needs a darker shade of purple for the top cap bolt though 8)

Along with a blue one I saw on Instagram probably the nicest colour murmur I've seen.

Really want one but just a little pricey at the moment.

They're starting to come up 2nd hand now and again, keep an eye out on the Starling Facebook page - Joe sometimes posts them up there if owners are moving them on.

Yeah I've seen a couple but I guess the chances of one coming up with the geo you want is slim but one can hope I guess!

Slim, but not impossible... It’s how I got mine. First owner traded it back in with Joe for updated geometry, it was close enough (and at a good price) that I just decided to give Joe the asking price and go with it.

I’ve spent a little more on it with the candy purple spray job but other than that, I’ve tried to be sensible. Got my name on his waiting list for a new one too, so who knows, this one might be up for sale in 6-9 months anyway.

Nice build! Really like that Mark.
Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this against the Evil.
Looks like you've just moved the components across (?) so should be a fairly even comparison.

Most of the parts are moved over from my Evil yes, not quite all. Forks, shock and seatpost all different but that’s about it. Weighs about the same, slightly less travel but slightly longer and slacker.

Can’t wait to find out!
