Friend has around £1600 to buy himself a bike after getting into the sport. He’s like full suspension and has ridden a Trek Fuel Ex before (hired) that he loved.

Doesn’t need long travel, probably 140mm max.

What would you tell him to go for?

I’ve been trying to find him a Fuel ex in the sales but failed miserably.

Could be riding it anywhere from Macc Forest to the peaks to Wales.

Thanks all

bit over budget, but great bikes:

mate has a similar model to this and loves it:

Probably worth checking out the most recent pinkbike field test videos. As he may want to get a higher spec hardtail?

Plenty of options out there these days.

Don't forget the Calibre range of bikes too, they are well priced and well received.

I think I’d consider the following options if it has to be new at that sort of budget:

Vitus Mythique (if you can find one in stock)

Calibre Triple B

Sonder Evol NX Revelation (currently on offer for £1699 and looks to have decent forks for the money)

Then just look for sale options like the Giant Trance above, and maybe you might find a Cube stereo 120 or 140 within budget.

Hi. Thanks so far.

£1600 is pretty much his limit, I’d asked him about the Trance but he just can’t stretch to it.

I found a GT Sensor Carbon elite and a Cannondale Habit for budget so I’ve shown him them.

Keep the ideas coming thanks

Think they are all out of stock mate, great options to keep an eye on for him though.

My trance was superb, can't recommend them enough. The whytes are lovely as well, you can pick a 2018 used s150s for that price.
