That code doesn't work for me on the cx bikes I've been eyeing up. You sure it works for everything?

I enjoy my rigid 26" Inbred a lot, but maybe it's time to swap it for something different. Hmmm

I have no idea, works on the pickenflick CX1 and the codine, not that I've been debating completely re-filling the shed or anything. It didn't highlight the items in my basket, but it did take 20% of off the total at the bottom.

tomd,
Real world view on the Vees - Yep they are crap especially in mud, They just slip & slide all over the place.

So I went for the wife frowning option. 4.8" 120TPI Bud on the front is amazing.
Who needs suspension ?

I put a Nate on the back (while spending why stop) but I suspect a floater would be pretty good as well, judging by peoples reviews.

@Dazzlingboy, what you got?

A Genesis Caribou (cream coloured, not the new one) and a semi-fat singlespeed hash-up. Mrs DB has had a few shots on the fatbike and was very impressed so picking up an on-one fatty (black tyres ftw) at £640 has ticked the Xmas list box big style.

Plus too many other bikes that don't get ridden enough.

How tall are people for the size they're buying? Stuck between 16" and 18" (5'11")?

I'm 5ft11 and 99/100ths and was torn between the 18" and 20", went for the 20" as they're all the same standover. Bit worried about the headtube length but was more worried about the top tube being too short.

I'm 5'10" with a short legs. I had a sit on the 18" in the Edinburgh shop and wouldn't have wanted it any shorter

I'm 5'10" with long(ish) legs and the 18" feels spot on for me

Apparently closer to 31 lb if you go tubeless and drill the rims which doesn't sound so bad.

I'm basing my wanting on it looking so bad and inappropriate that it can't not be good seeing as whenever I ride bikes I really want I end up hating them.

Ive gone from thinking they look like a pretentious ****tty niche to being an absolute hoot to ride, lost count of how often Ive built the bike (back V8s and carbon forks) and had to step away....drinking Leffe whilst surfing could be a bad idea!

I'm on this

Leffe doesn't seem very 'fat', have you considered a cross bike for something more Belgian? Could we apportion bike choice by drink choice? Why MTB'ers mostly drink bitter?

Leffe doesn't seem very 'fat',

I was drinking it when watching the MK CX race 🙂 and I am also shopping for bits to build some lighter wheels for my CX (just ordered Archetype rims, probably getting novatec hubs).

Theres a whole other thread spin-off, what is the appropriate (alcoholic) drink for
fat
singlespeed
enduro
CX
road

etc etc

anything to distract me from buying a fat bike...

Hmm the slightly secret not quite expired code has a lot to answer for tbh.....

I accidentally got a codeine frame...as well(as you do)..

I always find the sizing great fun, i'm 6'2 but had an 18 fatty and was vhappy with it and have gone for a medium codeine , I like to be all over the bike ..

I'm going for the carbon fatty fork as I do remember landing the last one a tad heavy and thinking 'phuk was that my wrist breaking'... ( I can have the I wonder if the forks gonna snap thoughts instead:-)

Fatty sorta sucks you into riding a bit er full on....

Plus one for the carbon fatty fork. Fitted some to my mukluk. Nicely lightens the front a fair bit. And I'll say again how dreadful the Vee 8 tyres are 😡

There'll be a full carbon one for a Grand before Xmas now we've all gone and bought one. (carbon forks, black V8s) 🙄

I'm around 5"11 and find a medium frame to work well.

Thanks for posting the code also, carbon forks on their way. 😀

EDIT: What's the best way of cutting a carbon steerer, hacksaw or a plumbers pipe cutter?

Hacksaw with a fine toothed blade. I'd do it outside to keep the dust out of the shed too.

Thanks, after a quick google, 32tpi is the blade to go for, will pick one up this weekend.

I use one of those clamp on guides that you put into a vice to get a clean nice cut...Its orrible stuff that carbon fibre dust...

I didn't think the normal fatty frame was terribly heavy tbh considerings its
pretty sturdily built - wheels and tyres are heavy though - the tubes are mentally heavy.

Cut mine yesterday with 32tpi hacksaw, worked perfectly. I did use a saw guide though to get it dead straight.

Damn,

Just had an email they're out of the white carbon forks until January. Do I go for the black? Internet poll!

It'll look like this only with black tyres. I'm swaying yes...

I was quite tempted by the black forks TBH.

You could always stick with the metal forks and see if someone will buy them for ~£50 in January.

Just checked and it's stopped working for me too.

Coincidentally I just got the e-mail to say that it's been shipped 🙂

Perhaps that means the code wasn't as genuine as it first looked and Chris Last has actually been fired. I was beginning to get suspicious as I'd not seen any other staff codes cropping up through the week, you'd think there were enough Planet-X/On-One staff with STW accounts!

that was precisely my thought when it appeared, the "competition" story didnt ring true as it wasn't widely promoted, and where were all the competing staff codes? Whatever the truth P-X had plenty of time to pull it, or to cancel the orders on the basis the code was being abused. Instead theyve had a massive cashflow boost before Xmas.

I didn't use the Chris Last one I found UKSTAFFDLO20 which was Dave Loughran.

Looks like I made it just in time!

Mine says it's been shipped also, but my tracking number isn't working. I'm guessing sometimes it takes a while for the system to show the tracking status?

Took a a bit over an hour (15:45-17:00) for mine to update, I don't think the tracking works until it reaches the deopt, I guess they'll have been in the same van.

I got the email about the carbon forks this afternoon, i was completely 50/50 and undecided about my decision to go white so was quite happy to have On One make my mind up for me.

I can't wait to get out on it now. I want with the Vee8 tyres just because i wanted black but i'm expecting them to be utter carp. I've ordered some Schwalbe freeride tubes and will plan on drilling the rims in the future but i just can't bring myself to pend upwards of £100 on tyres just yet.

Are the Floaters for £30 worth a go for riding on muddy, wet root trails around Haldon and the Quantocks?

Otherwise it'll be Maxxis Mammoth, Specialised Ground Control or Surly Nate for big bucks when i can bring myself to get my wallet out again.
