I bought one just for the parts!

Will use to build up a frame.

Bit of a steal!

That is ludicrously cheap, although the geometry on the 29er version of the Sentier is a bit out of date with very short reach figures vs seat tube height.

£999 is worth it for the build kit though to put into something with decent geometry 👌

That was my thinking. Will put this on a Marino, or something.

Vitus Sentier 29er frame and headset going cheap - DM me! 😉

I reckon a Nukeproof scout or Sonder signal frame could do a job with the Sentier build kit.

Although if you’re very patient Marino will give you whatever geometry you want. I got one a few years back and like the result but it was frustrating the time it took / lack of communication on progress. It’s not the sveltest of frames either - it feels made to last.

What are folks thoughts on the one down? It seems Bomber z2 and Deore 11sp vs Fox (Grip) and Deore 12sp is not much of a step down...?

Wouldn't bother with a marino frame personally, wasn't overly impressed on one i have seen and ridden in the flesh. New Ragley frames are out and have a decent range and geometry, and pretty cheap too. Scouts are good too.

@MattOAB - unsure about the forks, but I'd rather have Deore 11spd than 12spd, less finickety.

The one down also looks good. Z2 need the top popping to out some foam rings and some extra lube in from new.

I'm going to bide my time a bit about the frame. Thinking Pipedream Sirius, or Pace 529.

Marino is a bit hassly, although having the custom fit is very attractive.

That was my thought. I have two lots of 12sp and it is faffier and more expensive to replace - and I don't by the 'moar is better' of it.

I am having similar thoughts....hmmm. Maybe the credit card needs flexing.

Re the VR rather than VRS

I have 2022 Scout Comp with Z2. The gloss finish paint is already starting to peel away at the axle. They do feel a bit cheap compared to RS equivalent but I think thats predominently due to the plastic adjusters/top cap and the gloss finish.

The brakes on the VR are different too I think? I cant comment on longevity but the SRAM DB8 brakes on the scout feel great. Anodising is a bit shit but never mind.

Head tube on the sentier isn't stupid short either so the steerer should be good for a wider range of frames.

I’d not be too fussed about 11speed deore va 12 speed. You lose a tiny bit of top end (that I don’t use anyway) but have a decent size low end ring for the grinds.

But I’d much rather have the fox 34 than the Z2 - too many reports of Z2 issues with either bushings or play in them.

So I’d go with the £999 option for the vrs personally.

The Pace frames look decent - I always forget about those. Pipedream Moxie is also nice - as is the Bird Forge / Zero 29. Think they’re all more expensive than the Scout though probably?

I went Marino as I could get steel and the exact geometry I wanted. Started with a 27.5” Vitus Sentier geometry and slackened the head angle, extended the reach, shorted the seat tube and slightly steepened the seat angle. Worked out perfect for what I wanted. Went for 725 rather than 4130 hoping it would be a touch lighter - but the frame is very robust. It doesn’t feel whippy like steel frames used to be - but it definitely dampens trail buzz on longer rides. Much more comfy than the alloy Sentier I had before it - although I went for bigger volume tyres as well which probably make more difference than frame material.

Marino aren't beautifully made frames but you can get custom geometry for less than an off the shelf frame. I'd happily get another Marino as no one makes what I'm after and anything close costs more.

I'd echo others in that I'd be wary of the Marz fork due to previous issues but would rather have 11 speed as you can have almost the same range with less faff
