just been to newark notts store
got a vis jacket, merino (ish) top and soem arm warmers (last pair)
had plenty of jackets, seem good quality for the price to be fair
The waterproof jackets seem spot on, the gloves are too. I got some of the leggings .... mmmm, how big is that chamois? and how long are the legs? I'd like to see the person they would fit.
I'm wondering whether, for £13, I should take scissors and needle and customise, or just return them.
I was in local store today to get some gloves....big queue so left it till tomorrow. Tempted to the winter trousers, but do not think they were lined and not sure if I want to enter the comedy world of Aldi sizing and have to end up taking stuff back.
Went in today to pick up some of the merino jerseys.
The quality is very bad to say the least .... tissue paper thin material that would provide no warmth whatever the special qualities merino wool is supposed to have. And the style of cut is not ideal for a cyclist of any genre imo
I would not say they are worth £5 let alone £15.
Aldi was busy in Havant with loads queuing at the bike section. Managed to pick up a long sleeve jersey and the coat - quite chuffed with what I got for the price
Went to the local Tamworth one today and spent a few quid on water proof trousers, a pump, a lock for the nippers bike at school, two pairs of socks and a micro fibre towel. Oh and meat based products.
Bought some gloves - ones I've had in the past have been excellent.
The winter tops looked better this year, I'd have bought one if I hadn't blown my fun budget on a drunken ebay bargain the other night.
Was disappointed with the baggies - just looked like someone had stuck some liners in some left over board shorts.
That said, based on previous years, the quality and durability of things I've bought there has been excellent IF you bear in mind what they have cost.
Belgian buns were a little dry and diappointing I thought as well......
heart rate monitor for £10 with chest strap and bike mount
2 pairs of socks
flashing led refelctive bands, look like they might be rubbish, but stand out really well in the dark and means u get seen from the side.
Considering taking the chamois out of the leggings here - otherwise they fit well and I'd wear shorts under them anyway - even with this, for the money they seem pretty well featured.
What sizes are there on the shoes?
Winter soft shell jackets are ace for the money, got two, one for commuting and one for playing.
Picked up one of the white (marked womens!!) winter jacket, and used it on my commute home in the rain. It did what it was supposed to, in the keeping me warm and dry departments, and as a bonus I'm now a cross dressing cyclist 😀
stocked up today. Thermal bib tights at under a tenner are a no brainer, and the usual winter shirts are great, but not in stock this year. I got the new 'merino' one instead which is ok-ish, but no pockets, and it doesn't look durable enough for off road. I reckon it will just get used as a mid layer.
The winter jackets are fantastic though. Warm, waterproof, windproof and breatheable for £15. My last one got me through a day of hard riding in solid rain in Wales pretty comfortably. This years has better pockets.
The kit generally is really good.Tops are ace. I have stuff from 3 years ago and still perfect.
My best EVER ( from anywhere)clothing buy is a windprooof gillet. From aldi's or lidl's. It's superb and still going still 5 years later.Think it cost £7 or £8 pounds.
Will this stuff still be in Aldi today?
I have never really used Aldi and not sure if these things are just on sale for the one day?
On sale till it runs out.
Got the gloves, now I just need to see how good they are for strangling.
Picked up gloves, socks and on a whim one of the winter jackets. Dunno if I will ever use it, but it might come in handy as a running jacket when it starts getting chilly.
The gloves and socks and winter jerseys are all great as usual, but the retro-looking "Merino" jerseys (70% acrylic, 30% merino)are execrably hideous, and very itchy. Christ knows what I'll use it for, other than selling on Ebay in a few weeks time......
Only went for some glasses, didn't have them this time. 😥
I've lost 3 or 4 pairs already this year, I need some more, I've got loads of spare lenses but no frames to put them in.
Came away with some socks, you can never have too many socks.
picked up a winter jacket - seems great
a pair of shorts - bit thin, inner liner not a great fit, but at 13 quid worth a punt.
yellow waterproof - not sure abou tthis, but baggy in the body and 100% polyester so can't imagine it's that breathable? - might take that back and get some socks instead 🙂
Bought a winter jacket. The winter jersey seemed crappy compared to the one I bought there 3 years ago. Everything else had only midget or ladies sizes left (or midget ladies).
went into my local Aldi on the way home from work, was tempted by the winter top, but the large didn't seem that big and it has some funny 'piping' that runs across the back/shoulder-blades that may well annoy the **** out of me.
also, tempted by the bright yellow waterproof, but concerned it may be a bit 'boil-in-the-bag', plus it was labeled as a ladies - the mens was in black? - i might go back tomorrow and try it on and to hell with the fact i am wearing a 'ladies' top.
the socks seem really thin - do they really keep your feet warm?
the overshoes and skull cap thing might come in handy too
well, I'd like to purchase some of that stuff, being an avid cyclist an all, but I work in asda/tesco/aldi/morrisons and I don't get paid till next friday, and, guess what, I'm skint.
Winter jackets Are great. Nicer, non ape fit too this year.
Winter shirts are a bigger fit then last time, longer zip too, but no fleece inside. More of an Autumn top really. Still got two though.
The longs (both styles)seem very well made - huuuge sizes though. Had to swap the large for medium, which I haven't been since 1989. 🙂
Happily bought a Merino, but not used it yet - feels scratchy to touch but fine on.
I did buy quite a bit, but justified it as the 2 pair of baggies with the button in liner from 3(?) years ago have done over 1000 miles each without complaint.
Only shoes I could see were 10's or 11's though.
Took back the baggies I got yesterday and got the next size down 😆
Romsey still had stock of most stuff! Also got loads more meat product.. if it had fitted the first time i could have saved £6.25 😕 but it was nice 😆
There's load of stuff left in one of the Bristol stores (Ashton/Southville). Just picked up a heart rate monitor
Anyone tested the pump, mine doesn't seem to work!?
