I'm wondering if anyone else has tough time getting the right pressure on the rear shock of Cannondale Prophet. I find the only way to stop the wheel contacting the seat stay (on fast, rocky decents) is to pump the shock until it feels hard and unforgiving. The shock is a RP2 200/57mm set on the "free ride" setting.
Any thoughts? Maybe I should just live with some frame rub...
That's the wrong size shock. It should be 200x50
If the 200x57 is the only shock you have you'll only be see to use it in XC setting.
As Simon says you have the wrong shock.
As above, the wrong shock is the root of your issue but also unless its a low volume air can, that'll exacerbate the issue too. I suspect this will probably be the case, if you've the wrong sized shock. Ppl have run those sized shocks without major issues (apparently), so it might be worth trying to get hold of an air volume spacer kit (or a 'std'/low volume can) to try to resolve the issues
Oh balls. I bought the wrong thing. z1ppy any chance of a link to the product you are refering to?
No worries, I got it. Which spacer would to recommend?
Obviously you only need to buy this if you have a High volume can (link below with pictures to help identify it)
This is the Spring Volume Kit , though it might be just as cheap to buy a replacment can
In all honesty I'd suggest talking to a specialist (loco/j-tech/mojo) to see which they think will be the best option, as I bought my Fox shock tuned for my Prophet and have no idea if the sping volume kit will reduce the air capacity enough to match the "std" air can..
Good call. A trip to Psyclewerx then!
Apparently a 57 stroke shock will work n the xc setting, but then that kind of goes against the whole point of owning a Prophet!
i used an ISX 6 on the prophet as it has a regressive suspension design, the IFP chamber volume and pressure can be adjusted to ramp up at the end stroke, it worked very well as I could run reasonable air pressure to get the right sag and a good small bump feel and never have it bottom out hard.
I am using a DHX5 now and that is really nice... but heavier!
the Jtech tuned ISX is up for sale if you are interested it is a 200x50.
200*57mm in XC with offset bushes at both ends. Angles end up the same as a normal shock in the FR setting once you allow for the extra sag and add in 150/160mm forks to match the rear travel. I ran mine with 160mm Zocchies and a DHX Air/5th coil depending on whether there was an uplift or not and it was an Alps/Enduro beast!
