Why do my tubes keep tearing at the base of the valve? I have the grommet in the hole, no sharp edges, i run fairly high pressures but it never used to be a problem, are they possibly just a duff batch of tubes
anyone else get this?
Ta STW
Are you tightening the valve collar too much? Are you using a rubbish pump? Are you ham fisted? When are they tearing?
don't ever tighten the collar
talc the inside of your tyres, when the tyre deforms the tube should be able to slip so it doesnt pull the valve stem
I had a problem with plastic rim tape, moved over to a rubber type from specialized and haven't had it occur again.
It's usually due to the tyre rotating on the rim (due to drive or braking forces). Clean the tyre bead, maybe sand it a bit if it's polished. Clean the tyre seat on the rim. Talc the tube (unproven, but might be helpful). PUmp up high so the tyre is well seated and then reduce to desired pressure.
Ah i do do thisdon't ever tighten the collar
I also have pastic rim tape
They go as i am riding normally (uphill recently)
Thanks for the tips Guys!
cloth tape is a good idea too, if it's happening up hill chances are the tyre is slipping on the rim, sand the inside lip for the rim and clean the bead of the tyre before you re-fit
