I'm looking for a book for the wife to encourage her back in to riding. She was riding well and rolling some steep sections, hopping over roots and rocks and absolutely loved it. Then she fell and damaged her shoulder ligaments. We have since been on some fire roads, but she finds it boring, but when we do some steeper singletrack she is terrified of the smallest roots and rocks. She then goes so slow, loses balance and is again on the floor. She knows she can do it but can't keep off the brakes.

She has given me a mission; to find a book to get her mind strong to get her back to where she was. Anything out there with positive inspirational stories and plenty of nice pictures!

Cheers

Joe Simpson - Touching the Void

Pretty inspirational comeback from near death in constant pain...

The DVD is worth a look too...

Duh...Didn't think of a skills/coaching course. Will get a voucher for BPW....with extended time limit just in case we can't get there in the next 12 months!!

Well that made me laugh

Your wife is a bit nervous so lend her a book about a man who permanently damages his knee and then comes as close to death as you get without dieing. Well it wouldn't be my first choice

You or a coach needs to find something really progressive. So start on a fire road happy and in micro steps ends up on something hard. Each step needs to work and build confidence. To do this you might need to plan a really convoluted day out

agreed on the course idea

I also like the mtb skils book by Lopes and Lee McCormack - sort of plain talking and relaxed approach to what you might see on a trail and therefore how to cope

I'd also go for the chimp paradox. That and a course or something similar. Go somewhere new, ride with new people and get some coaching.

Also, new bike if that is an option - pretty much the only reason none of us are pro riders is the bike we own not being good enough?
