No I have still got two bikes with 8 speed.
@flap_jack - sorry mate - mine's 3x7, making it mega-ultra-niche.
I probably don't use the smallest 2 on the cassette either...
3x7?Hmmm, let me think. That's 3 sprockets lighter,but only 1 granny heavier than a 2x10, and you have less dish on the rear wheel,a wider/stronger chain and one more gear.Naaaah, it'll never catch on.
Still on 3x8 here, never saw the point of paying more for an extra gear I don't really want, only went 8sp because better quality/longer lasting 7sp stuff was withdrawn.
3x8 is on my best bike ! Got 3x7 and 3x6 too.
My MTB-road conversion has 3x7 shimano. I have an 8 speed SRAM system in a tin in case I need it. My GF has 3x8 Shimano. But my MTBs are currently 2x9 and 1x1.
My road bike is 1x5 🙂
I think 3x7 was great, never had to change chains or anything. I'd think about going for 3x8 next time I need to renew if it lasted as long. Theres gears on that 3x9 I never go near.
