walkie talkies good for trail use?

Not much cop actually. Limited range (not much better than 3km), which is soon exceeded at biking speeds. Poor performance in hilly terrain - or even with thick tree cover.

just thought they might be useful - the number of times the last person in a group has had a puncture coming down a trail and people waiting didn't know if it was injury or mechanical. Think it would be good in this situation.

Aye - I know where you're coming from. Performance is pretty mince though. You'd really need to go to more powerful (licensed, of course) systems. With current mobile phone coverage, there seems little point (accepting that there are still blind-spots).
