Hey Chaps,

Is anyone running a non-boost Pike with plus tyres? Like 2.8 Maxxis tyres? They look to come up at 2.6 ish, which I think would be OK in the Pike.

But, could be an expensive test! Anyone got big tyres in their older Pike?

Cheers

Ricks

I did use a 2.8in tyre in a non-boost 29er Pike and that was fine in the dry but too tight in the wet, as the tyre picked up mud and dragged it across the lowers.

So I would be even more cautious about the 27.5 version, as headroom might be an issue as well.

Tried a 2.8 Maxxis in my boost fork and it was a very tight squeeze. Can’t imagine it would be great in a non boost.

Just mounted one of the planet x cheapy vee tyres in 2.6 size. Looks OK when put in forks just waiting on sealant before riding

I’ve got a 27.5mm Pike - think it’s a 2017 or 2018 fork.

I’m currently running a 2.5wt DHF in it and that’s ok but I wouldn’t say there’s miles of room tbh. /.3 magic Mary has a little more room.

I haven’t tried the 2.6” Spec Hillbilly in it but I think it would be close / not leave much (if any) mud room. That tyre fits through my non-boost Lyrik 27.5” but any kind of mud combined with a fork mounted mudguard results in some noisy scraping of mud between tyre and guard.

So you may just squeeze a 2.8” through but it won’t be great / probably won’t be practical at all.

I got away with a 2.6" WTB with a mudguard with clearance for mud

I have 27.5" 2.8" tyres in a Boost 29" Pike. I think a smaller fork would be tight.

I have a 2015 non-boost pike and there's enough room for a 2.6 maxxis + mudguard. You can just about shoehorn a 2.8 in there but there's very little clearance.

Okay so not really what you want but it will give you an idea.

I am currently running a full 3.0" maxxis minion dhf on a 50mm rim in a non-boost, non-plus 2015 fox 32.

It does run but it's so close a higher pressure in the tire will cause it to rub gently.

My opinion is you should be fine with a 2.6"

I've got a 2.6 Maxxis Forekaster in there at the moment, which is about the same height as a 2.5WT Minion DHF.

It does have room to spare, which I what got me thinking about a 2.8 High Roller 2. As the knobs are pretty low compared to something like the DHF.

From the sound of it so far, it looks like it's gonna be way too tight a fit.
