Hi All,
I've just received a Scandal 29er frame and I'm going to bare metal it and polish back.
Please show me your results, inspiration needed!
Thanks.
tk,
Have you got yourself an original 29er Scandal? On the lookout myself, however I got myself a Salsa El Mar to be getting on with.
Hope it looks as good as your other two
inbred853,
I might have to sell the green one to fund another 29er build. If I do, are you interested?
Looks great that Cannondale! Many hours of Autosol I take it?
tk,
Certainly would be!
Its not too bad tbh, probably a few hours work. Though the Klein from painted to stripped and polished took around 8 all in. It depends on where your starting from and the finish of the tubes underneath.
Because I've just done it, here are some photos.

I love how our hobbies finish up in doors instead of being outside! I wonder what the wife will say when I'm sat watching TV polishing up a bike frame with cutting compounds, polishes and rags everywhere. ๐
Newbey,
Well done for remembering the plastic sheet on the floor! ๐
What have you used to strip it?
I used copious amounts of nitromors, and the blunt side of a woodworking knife to scrape it off. After that it was in the kitchen sink with some wire wool pan scourer things. Then into the shower to clean off, finally dried with a soft towel.
There's the odd bit of paint in the welds that needs a little more work.
YoKaiser, what did you use, that Klein is very shiny.
....now I want to do this to my BRG Scandal 29er frame...damn you!
Maybe I could lightly soda blast the name back on instead of using stickers too...hmm
Here is a photo of the bike as of half an hour ago, I just need to buy/acquire a suitable chainset and sort out the hoses then it will be finished. I'm quite happy with how it looks.

For the Klein I used Meguiars NXT metal polish. Once finished I use Chemical Guys Jetseal.
