maybe an obvious question so im sorry.... ๐ How do i remove the star nut(?) thingy inside the steerer tube? the thread sheered and it needs a new star nut fitted.
Just bang it a bit further down the steerer and then fit a new one.
i have no idea im sure the whole point is that they go in and stay in so why not just bash it down inside the steerer instead?
just knock it down a bit & put the new one above it
(or knock it right through if your steerer has a constant bore)
(or hacksaw off a couple of the legs of the star & it might drop or pull out)
(and don't tighten it so hard next time - you're only tensioning the bearings with it)
Knock it out the bottom with a hammer and a drift of some sort
Bang it further down or all the way through if you can.
cheers guys.
scaredypants - i make sure as to not over-tighten these. it looked like some sort of metal fatigue. was a bit worried, but ive checked the whole fork over and it seems ok.
no offence intended finners ๐ณ - just wasn't sure you'd be aware
(is it possible the stem was a bit loose & stressing the bolt somehow ?? must admit, seems unlikely to me)
