stop pedaling and start pumping?

I get them more on my FS bike than my rigid singlespeed (but not that often), it's just a question of adapting your technique I think.

ASR5 has a lower BB than the Anthem?
Its all about YOUR technique really.

I had a lot of strikes on my stumpjumper fsr compared to my hardtail or older bikes, a lot of it I put down to low bb but really looking back it was because I could pedal more as the bike was so controlled that I could hit stuff faster so I felt I could put in a pedal stroke when normally I'd be cruising

Technique! Perhaps you are pedaling more on the ASR, or it has a lower BB. Either way you're supposed to watch for obstacles on the trail and take appropriate action - obstacles aren't necessarily under your wheel ๐Ÿ™‚

Not familiar with the bike, but is 30% sag the recommended amount for it? Sounds like a lot. I thought 20% was more like it? Too much sag will make the bike sit lower, plus some bike are naturally lower to the ground to start with.

I was always whacking the ground with my pedals on my old FSR. When it was time to replace the cranks I tried some 170mm ones instead of 175mm (only because they were a tenner cheaper, I seem to remember) and that 5mm difference almost completely cured the pedal strikes.
